Atletico Mineiro vs Santos
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 13 July 2017
Kick-off: 00:30 CET
‘Under 2.5 goals’ was my prediction for Botafogo vs Atletico Mineiro a few days ago, and the game ended 1-1, with the hosts equalizing in added time. Atletico have reasons to feel they deserved something more, not only because they were seconds away from leaving Rio de Janeiro with a 1-0 victory, but also because earlier on they had missed a penalty, the first they’ve wasted in 14 months(!). Robinho is going through his… driest spell ever since he joined Atletico, he now has 11 matches without scoring. Young defenders Bremer and Matheus Mancini who were called by coach Roger Machado to fill in the gaps left by unavailable experienced teammates, did a good job, and were publicly praised by their coach. Ecuadorian center-back Frickson Erazo is still undergoing treatment and is unavailable. Plus, rumor is, he is about to be transferred, having lost his spot in the list that Atletico sent to Conmebol for the remainder of the Copa Libertadores season.
Just as predicted here, Santos beat Sao Paulo at home last weekend, despite the fact that the visitors were playing with a new coach on their bench. Santos are traveling to Belo Horizonte without five important players. Ricardo Oliveira and Zeca have been sidelined for over a month now, so their absence is nothing new. But, three more players became unavailable these last days. Defensive midfielder Renato had to be substituted in the second half of the game versus Sao Paulo, and tests showed that his injury is serious enough to keep him out for a month. Furthermore, striker Copete, scorer of all three Santos’ goals versus Sao Paulo, and Lucas Lima, both received their third yellow card of the season and had to stay back in Santos.
Atletico Mineiro vs Santos: Head-to-head Stats
Five wins for Atletico and one draw in the last six games they’ve hosted Santos in.
Atletico Mineiro vs Santos: Prediction
From struggling to score even once in every game, Santos have gone to scoring six(!) in their last two matches, winning both by 3-2. Their absentees though are important, so I’m backing Atletico to pick up all three points.
Atletico Mineiro vs Santos: Tips
Atletico’s win pays 1.80. For -much- more than that, I’d take the risk to bet on Atletico not just to win, but keep a clean sheet as well.
