Atletico Paranaense vs Fluminense
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 8 November 2018
Kick-off: 00:45 CET
Atlético Paranaense lost 2-1 at Internacional last weekend (as expected and predicted here), playing with several reserves. Their coach, Tiago Nunes, chose to rest key players, so as to have them at their 100% in this game against Fluminense. Paulo André, Lucho González and Pablo are just three of the guys who didn’t play last weekend, but are 100% available for the first leg against Flu. Atlético actually took the lead in the second half, and lost 2-1 after conceding twice in the last 10 minutes. Inter’s second goal came form the penalty spot, a refereeing decision that didn’t go down well with Atlético’s people. They are 9th in the Série A, on 43 points from 32 matches. They are expected to start with Santos, Jonathan, Paulo André, Léo Pereira, Renan Lodi, Wellington (or Bruno Guimarães), Lucho González, Raphael Veiga, Nikão, Marcelo Cirino and Pablo.
Just like Atlético Paranaense, Fluminense played with some reserves last weekend, when they faced Vasco da Gama at Maracana. Once again, as predicted here, they lost, 0-1, a defeat their coach, Marcelo Oliveira, called “fair”, talking to reporters after the final whistle. Flu had bigger ball possession, but lacked efficiency. Plus, watching the game, you could tell that Vasco’s players had a bigger motive, as they were/are struggling to avoid relegation. Fluminense are 10th in the Série A, on 40 points from 32 matches, right behind Atlético Paranaense. It’s worth mentioning that several Flu players these last days talked about the field at Arena da Baixada. It’s partly synthetic, something Brazilians are not used to (excluding Atlético’s players).

Atlético have won three matches in a row at home over Fluminense. Before that, Flu had back-to-back victories in Curitiba.
Atletico Paranaense vs Fluminense: Prediction
I feel Atlético have a better team, they are playing at home, the stadium will have one of the two biggest crowds of the season, so I’m backing them to win the game, and I won’t be surprised if that happens by two goals.
