Atletico Paranaense vs Fluminense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 16 September 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
I feel for Atlético Paranaense, but… it doesn’t change the fact that they have now lost three games in a row. They lost 2-0 at Palmeiras playing a very good game until the 70th minute, they lost 3-1 at Atlético Mineiro deserving at least a draw, and midweek they lost 2-1 at Chapecoense as well, despite taking the lead in the second half. They were extremely lucky to get equalized due to an own-goal, and they conceded again in the dying minutes of the match, because their center-back Thiago Heleno didn’t do his job right. Atlético had gone undefeated in nine straight matches, in all competitions, they had conceded just two goals in those nine games, but incredibly, they have now conceded seven(!) in their last three(!). They are on 27 points, close to the relegation zone.
Fluminense’s number 10, Ecuadorian Sornoza, is back from international duty, but Flu’s coach, Marcelo Oliveira, told reporters that he won’t necessarily start against Atlético Paranaense, and may not even play at all. The Rio de Janeiro team have a Copa Sudamericana game coming up, in Sornoza’s homeland, against Deportivo Cuenca, and Oliveira wants to have his number 10 at his best there. Last week, Fluminense beat Botafogo 1-0 at Maracana, a deep breath for them after earning just two points from their last three games in the Série A. Despite their ups and downs, they have managed to stay in the middle of the table, comfortably far from the relegation zone, unlike city rivals Vasco da Gama and Botafogo. Pedro, their best striker, remains unavailable, taking things… one week at a time, hoping to return to action as soon as possible, but only if he is 100% ok. He got injured a few weeks ago, and missed his chance of playing for Brazil’s national team in their recent friendly games (he had received a call, just before getting injured).

Atletico Paranaense vs Fluminense: Betting Tips
The hosts’ win, at 1.83, is my main tip. Their “over 1.5” pays 2.25. Last, pushing things a bit, “Atlético and over 2.5 goals” pays an awesome 3.60.
