Austria Vienna vs Apollon Limassol
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 8 August 2019
Kick-off: 19:30 CET
It is not looking good for Austria Vienna… Their coach, Christian Ilzer, told reporters after his team’s loss in their championship last weekend that they urgently need new ideas, a big change, admitting that maybe he needs to rethink his entire game plan, the tactical scheme, everything. Austria lost 3-1 at Swarovski Tirol 10 days ago, on their debut in their national championship. Last weekend they lost again, 0-3, to LASK. Two games, two defeats, six goals conceded, numbers that give you an idea why Ilzer feels that they need to change things drastically and quickly. Truth is, they did well in most of their friendly matches, but once the official ones started, their weaknesses were… brutally exposed.
Unlike Austria, who didn’t have to play in the first two qualifying rounds, Apollon Limassol had to eliminate Kauno Žalgiris and Shamrock Rovers. Things proved easy against the Lithuanians, two wins by a total score of 6-0, but the two games against Shamrock were a very different story; Apollon lost 2-1 in Ireland. They took a 2-0 lead at home last week, in the return leg, but right after that, they were reduced to 10 men, and the Irish scored. Added time included, the Rovers had about 25 minutes to score the second goal they needed to qualify, playing with an extra man. Apollon did well defensively, pushed the tie to extra time, and there, the Irish… committed suicide; just two minutes into extra time, it was 10 vs 10 on the pitch, as a Shamrock player got sent off. Apollon didn’t… forgive (the way Shamrock had done earlier), scored, won 3-1, so… here they are. No game for them last weekend.

Austria Vienna vs Apollon Limassol: Head to head Stats
No history between these two.
Austria Vienna vs Apollon Limassol: Prediction
Austria are considered favorites to win the game, but the way they have looked in their two matches in their championship the last two weeks, makes it very hard to trust them.
Austria Vienna vs Apollon Limassol: Betting Tips
“Over 2.5 goals”, at 2.05, is a bet I like, because of the way Apollon’s games against Shamrock went, and also because of how vulnerable Austria looked in their last two matches. Apollon’s double chance combined with “over 1.5” (not 2.5), is at 2.40.
