Avai vs Botafogo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 4 August 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Simply put, Avaí are desperate for points. Last week they lost 3-1 at Santos, the fifth defeat in their last seven matches. At least they scored, their first goal in six games. Twelve game weeks into the season, Avaí remain the only team without a single victory, obviously at the bottom of the table, on just five points. Their coach, Alberto Valentim, as always, avoided giving hints regarding who is going to start, but according to reports, the first 11 should be Lucas Frigeri (or Vladimir), Léo, Betão, Marquinhos Silva, Paulinho (or Igor Fernandes), Pedro Castro, Richard Franco, Lourenço, João Paulo, Ferrareis and Bruno Sávio. There are many-many games left, two thirds of the season, but it feels like Avaí will need a mini miracle to avoid relegation. Anything can happen in football, but… it just feels that their roster is not good enough to keep them in the top division.
Botafogo are facing their own serious problems… Midweek, they got eliminated by Atlético Mineiro in Copa Sudamericana, losing 2-0 in Belo Horizonte, a week after losing 0-1 at home as well. They have now lost four games in a row, Serie A and Copa Sudamericana combined. Plus, they keep facing serious financial problems. It looks like the people working at the club’s headquarters are about to go on strike, desperate to be paid at least some of the money they are owed. Be reminded, to pay even the players’ salaries the last two months, the club relied on generous contributions by well-off individuals, simple fans who are not members of the board of directors. A few days ago Botafogo did announce an agreement with one more sponsor, a Portuguese company, a deal that will run until the end of 2019, but… that money looks like drops in an ocean…

Avai vs Botafogo: Prediction
Avaí need a win to start dreaming of avoiding relegation. I seriously doubt though that they’ll get it this weekend, no matter how… problematic Botafogo look at the moment.
Avai vs Botafogo: Betting Tips
Botafogo’s win in “draw no bet” is at 2.35. Their double chance is not paying more than 1.65, but goes up to 2.22 if combined with “under 2.5 goals”.
