Bahia vs Atletico Goianiense
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 6 June 2017
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Bahia may have two consecutive defeats in the Serie A, but both were away from home, at Vasco da Gama and Botafogo (both strong teams), by just one goal (2-1 and 1-0 respectively), and in between those they had to play a double final of the Copa do Nordeste. My point is, they may have just three points in three games, but they have performed better than that, especially against Atletico Paranaense on the first day of the championship, when they… threw a party, thrashing the Curitiba team 6-2(!). A few days ago they hired a new coach, former player Jorginho, who took Guto Ferreira’s place, after the latter decided to accept the offer made to him by Internacional (despite the fact that Inter play in the Serie B this season). Midfielder Gustavo Ferrareis joined the club on loan a couple of days ago.
Last weekend I predicted a Bahia defeat at Botafogo without scoring (they lost 1-0), and similarly, an Atletico Goianiense defeat at home to Corinthians, also without scoring. They too lost 1-0. Atletico have been the worst team in the first three game weeks of the championship, they have zero points, just one goal, eight against them, and most of all, they have looked very… inadequate, meaning that the way they’ve played doesn’t really justify the fact that they are a Serie A team. They do have a few players who could, probably, play in better teams that them in the Serie A, it’s not like their roster is… empty, but as a group, as a team, they leave a lot to be desired. They have four defeats in a row, the last three at home, two to Flamengo (one was in the Copa do Brasil), and the last one to Corinthians.
Bahia vs Atletico Goianiense: Head-to-head Stats
Bahia have won three of the last five games they’ve hosted Atletico in, with the other two ending in a draw.
Bahia vs Atletico Goianiense: Prediction
It’s no wonder Bahia are considered big-big favorites to win the game. I’m trying to imagine Atletico surprising all of us, but… honestly, I can’t. They have been so poor for weeks now, that they really give you nothing to… grab yourself from, and back them to earn at least a draw.
Bahia vs Atletico Goianiense: Tips
Bahia’s win pays just 1.50. They have scored three goals in their last four games, but right before that, they scored six over Atletico Paranaense. Everything considered, for something more than 2.00, I’m backing them to win and keep a clean sheet, avoiding predicting an over 2.5 goals game.
