Bahia vs Flamengo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 4 August 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Bahia’s first game after the Copa América break was a positive 1-1 draw with Gremio away from home, in their Copa do Brasil quarterfinal tie with the Porto Alegre side. That was something over three weeks ago. Four games down the road, Bahia are out of Copa do Brasil, didn’t score in any of those four matches, and picked up just two points in the championship, losing ground in the table. They have looked solid defensively, conceding just twice, but I repeat, incredibly, they failed to score in any of their last four games. Roger Machado seems to believe that the team are still paying for the loss of Douglas Augusto, a midfielder who left the club during the Copa América break moving to PAOK, Greece. These last days he looked willing to try something new, use right-back João Pedro in midfield, a role he has – occasionally – played before, as a Chapecoense player. Bahia are 12th in the table, on 16 points.
What a relief for Flamengo… Midweek, they beat Emelec 2-0 at home, matching the result of the first game, lost in Guayaquil a week earlier. The tie went to penalties, and there, Fla did a much better job. The Rio de Janeiro giants are in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, where they will be facing Internacional later this month. Bad news for Flamengo was that Gabigol got injured. Either way he is suspended, and wouldn’t play against Bahia, but it’s unclear how long he’ll stay sidelined. Jorge Jesus is expected to have Diego Alves, Rodinei (or Rafinha), Thuler, Pablo, Renê, Piris da Motta (or Cuellar), Éverton Ribeiro, Gerson, De Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique and Reinier in the starting lineup. Reinier is a 17-year-old who has caught Jorge Jesus’ attention, and with Gabigol (as well as Lincoln) out, this is an awesome chance for him to show things. Flamengo are third in the table, five points behind leaders Santos.

Bahia vs Flamengo: Head to head Stats
Two wins each, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Salvador.
Bahia vs Flamengo: Prediction
Flamengo are considered favorites to win, but I have serious doubts, despite the fact that Bahia are not going through their best period. Fla have key men out, and some of those who will play, have already taken part in three games the last 10 days…
Bahia vs Flamengo: Betting Tips
“Under 2.5 goals” is at 1.73, my main tip. Bahia’s double chance is at just 1.60, but goes up to 2.50 if combined with “under 2.5 goals”.
