Bahia vs Palmeiras
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 16 September 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Given that four of Bahia’s last five matches were away from home, the six points they earned these last weeks wasn’t the worst that could have happened to them. Actually, they lost at in-form Santos, also in-form (back then) Atlético Paranaense, and last weekend they lost at co-leaders Sao Paulo, so you can’t really blame them. On the other hand they, beat Sport Recife at home, and, very important, Ceará in Fortaleza, in a six-point game, as Ceará are a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation. Bahia feel they are much better than that, and they shouldn’t be troubled with relegation thoughts, but as long as they are just four points above the relegation line, they are obliged to… be troubled. They are hosting Botafogo in a few days, in a Copa Sudamericana game, but… on Thursday, and no trip is involved, so they have the “luxury” to play with their best 11 against Palmeiras.
Palmeiras were left fuming at the referee on Wednesday, for annulling a perfectly good goal in the last minute of added time in their Copa do Brasil semifinal against Cruzeiro. It would have made the score 1-1 (first leg), but… the referee saw a foul on Cruzeiro’s keeper, even though no foul existed, and just like that, Palmeiras were doomed to traveling to Belo Horizonte for the return leg having a disadvantage. Actually, Palmeiras took action the day after, filing an official complain to the Brazilian Football Confederation, regarding the referee. They feel he should be punished, not only for his biggest mistake, but for an overall poor – they believe – performance. Palmeiras are visiting Colo-Colo on Thursday, for a Copa Libertadores game, so Scolari is expected to rest some of his regulars in Salvador.

Bahia vs Palmeiras: Head to head Stats
The last game between these two in Salvador, a Copa do Brasil match earlier this year, ended in a goalless draw. Before that, Palmeiras had five wins in a row over Bahia as guests.
Bahia vs Palmeiras: Prediction
Palmeiras have been fantastic in the Série A ever since Scolari took over, and despite being in the middle of huge games in other competitions, they don’t want to… waste all the effort they put into to climb third in the table, just three points behind co-leaders Internacional and Sao Paulo. Despite playing without some regulars, I still expect them to score… half a goal more than Bahia, and win the game.
Bahia vs Palmeiras: Betting Tips
Palmeiras’ win is at 2.50, with their double chance down at 1.40. Their clean sheet is at 2.62. Remember, they have conceded just one goal in their last nine Série A matches.
