Barcelona vs General Diaz
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 21 February 2018
Kick-off: 01:30 CET
Wow… That’s my… deep and sophisticated reaction seeing how Barcelona won their Ecuador championship opener last weekend. They were playing at home against Universidad Católica, took the lead early, but got equalised before half time, and things got even worse five minutes into the second half, when they lost a player with a direct red card. In the 71st minute, Católica took the lead, and at that point it felt that it was… game over for Barcelona, losing, and playing with 10 men. Three minutes later, Ely Esterilla equalised(!), and just before added time started, Juan Dinenno gave Barcelona an incredible 3-2 victory, definitely impressing Osvaldo Cohener, a General Díaz member of the coaching staff, who was in the stands watching the game. Barcelona finished 5th last season in Ecuador’s championship, combining both halves. They earned the first of the four Copa Sudamericana tickets that Ecuador gets.
Despite hosting a lowly opponent last Friday, I didn’t trust General Díaz to win, I suggested Independiente Campo Grande’s double chance and draw alone, and the game ended 1-1, with General Díaz earning exactly as much as they deserved, a single point. It was their second 1-1 draw in as many games at home at the start of the new season in Paraguay. In between, they lost 3-1 at Olimpia, a rather flattering result for them, as they could have lost by a much bigger score. Generally, General Díaz haven’t looked convincing at the start of the season, and should feel content with having lost just one of their three games in the Apertura. Last year they finished 6th in Paraguay, combining both halves of the season, earning a Copa Sudamericana ticket.

Barcelona vs General Diaz: Betting Tips
A simple Barcelona win pays 1.45. Keeping in mind how they looked last weekend, and how General Díaz have been looking these last three weeks in Paraguay’s championship, I expect at least two goals from the hosts, and a third one from either side. “Over 2.5 goals” is at 2.20 betting odds, and combined with Barcelona’s win it goes up to a very good 2.70. You could skip all these and go for Barcelona’s “over 1.5” alone, at 1.80.
