Bath vs Leicester Tigers
Competition: English Premiership Rugby
Date: 08 April 2017
Kick-off: 15:00 CET
This is arguably one of the biggest clashes of the weekend as two teams fight for a spot in the playoffs in the last four rounds of the competition. Bath take onLeicester in an intriguing battle as the end of the regular season looms.
Bath currently sit in fifth place on the log with 48 points – leaving them out of contention for a spot in the semi-finals of the English Premiership. However, they trail Leicester by just three points, with the visitors lying in fourth place on the log with 51 points.
It’s been a good season for Bath. They are still in contention for the European Challenge Cup after a 34-20 win over Brive in the quarterfinals last weekend. They got one eye on a European trophy and the other on the domestic league and they are very much in the running.
However as much as they are nipping at Leicester’s heels, they have to fight off sixth placed Harlequins, who trail them by one point. A slip-up could prove costly this weekend.
Leicester have been more focused on the domestic front since their exit from the European Champions Cup in January. Despite that disappointment, they already have a trophy in the cabinet – after claiming the Anglo-Welsh in March.
They’ve got plenty of experienced internationals in their lineup which has helped them in recent weeks and their flyhalf Freddie Burns has been deadly accurate with his boot. They’ve also confirmed that former England back Mat Tait has signed a contract extension – keeping the skipper committed to the club for another year.
The pressure is firmly on Leicester this weekend as they look to keep their playoff spot. They definitely have an advantage considering the match is being played on neutral ground at Twickenham.
