Bayern Munich vs Besiktas
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 20 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Bayern Munich needed an added-time goal scored by Robert Lewandowski from the penalty spot to beat Wolsfburg on Saturday. Not that it would have made any difference in the Bundesliga if they had drawn (or even lost), as their distance from second-placed RB Leipzig is… ridiculously big (21 points). It was their 13th win in a row, Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and Champions League combined. One win that definitely stack out was that 3-1 over PSG back in early December, a result (product of a very good performance) that showed Bayern still “have it” not just in their domestic competitions, but at international level as well, something that had been questioned after their embarrassment in Paris earlier in the UEFA CL group stage. Other than Lewandowski, Sandro Wagner scored as well last Saturday when Bayern came back from 1-0 down to beat Wolfsburg, but their coach, Jupp Heynckes, singled out another player; Thomas Muller was the one who changed things on the pitch according to his coach, coming off the bench on the hour mark. By the way, Muller was the one who had scored the winner against Schalke a week earlier.
Things could definitely be better at Besiktas ahead of this massive game. Their 1-1 draw at Konyaspor on Friday seriously hurt their chances of winning the championship in Turkey. At the moment they are fourth, meaning that missing out on the title itself is not their biggest worry, as even their participation in next season’s UEFA Champions League looks anything but certain. Going back to their group matches, one of the most striking things was that they won all three games as visitors, against strong teams. Porto (1-3), Monaco (1-2), RB Leipzig (1-2), all three failed to deal successfully with the reigning Turkey champions. Obviously, none of them is even close to Bayern Munich’s level, but in two matches, home and away, anything can happen, especially when you take into account Besiktas’ great roster, their ambition to shock the football world with a qualification past Bayern, and last but not least, the deafening atmosphere their fans create back home, where they will be playing the return leg.

Bayern Munich vs Besiktas: Head to head Stats
Bayern have hosted Besiktas once before, something over 20 years ago. They won 2-0.
Bayern Munich vs Besiktas: Prediction
I wish I trusted Besiktas to leave Munich undefeated, their double chance pays an awesome 5.50, but… I don’t. I expect Bayern to win, despite looking less than impressive in their last two Bundesliga matches.
Bayern Munich vs Besiktas: Betting Tips
A simple Bayern win pays practically nothing, 1.16. I’m counting not just on them, but on Besiktas as well to produce a match with a high score. “Bayern and over 3.5 combined goals” is at 2.05, it may look somewhat extreme to some, but keep in mind that all Besiktas’ games in the group had high scores, and even at 2-0 (down) Besiktas would still have a motive to attack, to score, playing their part in producing a total of – hopefully – four goals.
