Bayern Munich vs Schalke
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 9 February 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Bayern Munich were flying from one win to another for weeks, both before and after the winter break, but they… landed roughly last weekend, losing 3-1 at Bayer Leverkusen. They were leading 0-1 at halftime, but… the lights went off for them in the second half, conceding three(!) goals without providing any answers. Midweek, they suffered in Berlin, but they did beat Hertha 2-3, in extra-time, to qualify for the DFB Pokal quarterfinals. Franck Ribery played, and is expected to start against Schalke. Manuel Neuer is doubtful, still trying to shake off a hand injury. Arjen Robben and Renato Sanches were also considered doubtful the day before the match. Corentin Tolisso remains out. Something over 24 hours before kick-off, it looked like Bayern would start with Ulreich, Kimmich, Süle, Hummels, Alaba, Goretzka, Thiago, Gnabry, Müller (replacing James Rodríguez), Ribery and Lewandowski. Bayern are now third, seven points behind leaders Dortmund, level with second-placed Gladbach.
Schalke too had a DFB Pokal round of 16 match midweek, but their game against Fortuna Dusseldorf went much more… smoothly that what Bayern’s game went for Die Rotten in Berlin. Schalke went 3-0 up early in the second half, and ended up winning 4-1, easily. Last weekend they lost 0-2 at home to Gladbach, lost their goalkeeper Alexander Nübel as well, to a direct red card in the 59th minute. The two goals they conceded came after the 85th minute, both. Fährmann, Caligiuri, Sane, Nastasic, Oczipka, Rudy, Bentaleb, Serdar, McKennie, Konoplyanka and Uth, this should be the starting lineup. Burgstaller, Embolo, Nübel, Schöpf, Skrzybski, Stambouli, all six are out.

Bayern Munich vs Schalke: Head to head Stats
Three Bayern wins and two draws in the last five games between these two in Munich.
Bayern Munich vs Schalke: Prediction
Domenico Tedesco, Schalke’s coach, cannot rotate the team the way Niko Kovac can at Bayern, because his roster right now is… shorter, as there are several players missing. Even a full Schalke squad would be outsiders in Munich, let alone now…
Bayern Munich vs Schalke: Betting Tips
“Bayern and over 3.5 goals” is at 2.20, worth the risk, I reckon, keeping in mind that both teams’ most games these last weeks, after the end of the winter break, have had many goals.
