Beijing Guoan vs Urawa Red Diamonds
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 13 March 2019
Kick-off: 13:00 CET
Beijing Guoan were no match for Jeonbuk Motors last week. I overestimated them. On the pitch, they were second best throughout the match, and lost 3-1, not really deserving something better. They bounced back on Saturday, throwing a party at Chongqing Dangdai Lifan. They were 0-3 up by halftime (Jonathan Viera and Cedric Bakambu scored their first two goals), before Wang Ziming added the cherry on top in added time, making it 0-4. They are one of the only four teams that won both their first two CSL matches this season, and what makes their success even bigger is that both wins were earned away from home.
Backed by an amazing crowd (they are… blessed with some of the most passionate and loyal fans in Japan), Urawa Red Diamonds beat Buriram United 3-0 last week, starting their AFC Champions League group campaign on the right foot. “Urawa and under 3.5 goals” (2.20) was the tip here back then, and the Japanese side… delivered, winning 3-0. All three goals were scored in the second half, the last two by Daiki Hashioka. All in all, Urawa were better, no doubt, they deserved all three points, even though the final score, that three-goal difference, was a bit… excessive, based on how the whole 90 minutes went. On Saturday, it was a 72nd-minute penalty that earned Urawa all three points at Matsumoto Yagama (0-1). That was their first win in three J1 League matches this season.
