Belgrano vs Union Santa Fe
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 27 January 2019
Kick-off: 21:10 CET
It is not looking well for Belgrano… They finished 2018 sitting 24th in the table, and, most important of all, 23th in the “promedio” table, meaning that with two thirds of the season gone, they are below the relegation line. Their last official match a month and a half ago was at home, against Tigre, a painful 1-2 defeat, to a team below them in the promedio table, a truly pathetic result. Diego Osella remains their coach. No less than eight new players arrived at the club. Among them, Colombian winger Mauricio Cuero, who spent last year on loan from Santos Laguna at Olimpia, Paraguay, where, though, he didn’t enjoy his coach’s trust. He is a guy who can turn a game upside-down with his speed and creativity. On the other hand, seven players left, including 30-year-old second striker Matías Suárez, who got transferred to River Plate.
What a win by Unión Santa Fe last Wednesday… They visited River Plate, they were a bit lucky not to concede early in the game, and then… the referee made a mistake, gave a penalty for a foul that happened right outside the box, Unión didn’t miss that golden opportunity to take the lead, and that was not all; Diego Zabala made it 0-2 in the 73rd minute, finishing off an awesome effort of a teammate. River got one goal back in the 89th minute, a lucky one, but Unión avoided major threats in added time, and left Monumental with all three points. They can proudly say that in the course of a single week, they beat both teams that played in the Copa Libertadores final, Boca Juniors in a friendly match, and River in the Superliga. They are 11th in the table, on 22 points from 15 matches, super close to the Copa Sudamericana positions.

Belgrano haven’t hosted Unión since 2012; back then, they beat them 1-0 in February, and then again 1-0 in October.
Belgrano vs Union Santa Fe: Prediction
The hosts are considered slight favorites to win, despite the fact that Unión just beat River Plate away from home. I feel I have to trust Unión to earn at least a draw.
