Boca Juniors vs Godoy Cruz
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 3 February 2019
Kick-off: 21:10 CET
Boca Juniors were impressive on Thursday, at San Martín San Juan. The tips here for that game were Boca’s win (1.83) and the same combined with “over 1.5” (2.38), they came good, but both proved… conservative, as the Xeneizes threw a party, leading 0-2 by halftime, 0-3 early in the second half, and finishing the game at 0-4, missing chances for an even bigger score. Someone could say they were visiting one of the weakest teams in the league; the counter-argument would be that there are no weak-weak teams in this league, and especially away from home, you need to be 101% serious to beat any team, even one of those sitting in the last 5-10 spots in the table. Both Mauro Zárate and Ramón Ábila scored, but don’t be surprised if you see both on the bench. Coach Gustavo Alfaro is trying to… keep everyone happy, so he is expected to have Carlos Tévez and Darío Benedetto back into the starting lineup. Boca are 5th, on 28 points from 15 matches (they still have one in hand).
River Plate’s win (2.25) was the only tip here on Wednesday, when Godoy Cruz hosted them. Thirty-four minutes into the game, it was already over(!). The Mendoza side were 0-2 down, and had just lost a player to a direct red card. Playing 10 vs 11 against a team that looked determined to bounce back after three ridiculous defeats at home in a matter of 10 days, Godoy Cruz stood no chance. Final score, 0-4. That was Godoy Cruz’s second home defeat in five days. They are still to score in 2019, and have already conceded six goals. They sit 9th in the table, still in a Copa Sudamericana position, but I have serious doubts if they’ll finish in the top 10 in April.
