Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 18 May 2019
Kick-off: 15:30 CET
Gladbach were awesome last weekend, beating Nurnberg 0-4 away from home. They sit fourth in the table, on 55 points, as many as Bayer Leverkusen, but they have the advantage over them, because of a better goal difference. Ironically, despite already sitting fourth, winning this game may not be enough for them to finish there. If, for example, they win 1-0, and Leverkusen beat Hertha in Berlin by three goals, they will finish level on points (58 each), level on goal difference (+16), but Leverkusen will have scored several more goals than Gladbach. Leverkusen-aside, Borussia have Eintracht to worry about as well; the Frankfurt side are on 54 points, so Gladbach need against Dortmund a result that will be at least as good as the one Eintracht may earn against Bayern. Dieter Hecking is expected to have Sommer, Beyer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt, Hofmann, Kramer, Zakaria, Traore, Drmic and Hazard in the starting lineup. Neuhaus is suspended and Stindl injured. The day before the game, Doucoure, Herrmann, Raffael and Johnson were doubtful.
Mathematically, Dortmund can still win the Bundesliga title, but they know it does not depend on them alone. Sitting second in the table, two points behind leaders Bayern Munich, with a goal difference nowhere near as good as that of Bayern, Dortmund need not just a win of theirs over Gladbach, but also a Bayern defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. If Bayern draw and they finish level on points, Bayern’s goal difference is infinitely superior to that of Dortmund, so they will be left with the trophy. Marco Reus is back from suspension. Lucien Favre should have Bürki, Piszczek, Weigl, Akani, Guerreiro, Witsel, Delaney, Sancho, Reus, Pulisic and Götze in the starting lineup. Hakimi is injured, and Wolf suspended. The day before the game, Diallo and Zagadou were doubtful.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund: Prediction
Dortmund are considered favorites to win, but I don’t see that, partly because I expect Bayern to score early in their game, be two goals up by halftime, leaving Dortmund… hopeless, less motivated.
