Boston River vs Cerro Porteno
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 27 July 2017
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Truth be written, Boston River did better than what I expected two weeks ago. They did lose at Cerro Porteno (as predicted here), but they scored (sending my ‘Cerro Porteno and under 2.5 goals’ prediction to the dustbin). Actually, they took the lead in the 13th minute, and they stayed up until 15 minutes from time. In four minutes they conceded twice, that’s how they lost 2-1, but despite their disappointment for the way the game ended, and the lack of official matches ever since, they still have the right to dream of qualifying, thanks to that precious away goal they scored.
Two weeks ago, when Cerro Porteno hosted Boston River, they hadn’t played an official match in three weeks. They had finished the Apertura championship in Paraguay very poorly, fourth, 15 points behind champions Libertad, but at least they got a positive result against the Uruguayans. Last weekend though, they showed again their weaknesses, losing 2-1 at General Diaz, on the first day of the Clausura championship. Cerro Porteno had just signed several players before the first leg against Boston River, and they signed even more after that match, but despite their superior (compared to their opponents) roster, they cannot feel safe, not after that goal they conceded in Asuncion, and the way they looked in their championship game last weekend.
Boston River vs Cerro Porteno: Head-to-head Stats
This is just the fourth international game in Boston River’s history. Obviously that game in Asuncion two weeks ago was the first ever between these two. Cerro Porteno have a bad record in Montevideo against Nacional and Penarol, but Boston River are no Nacional, no Penarol.
Boston River vs Cerro Porteno: Prediction
I will be surprised if Cerro Porteno win, I’m almost ruling that out (risking biting my tongue once the game is over), but I think that their experience in international games will send them through to the last 16 of the competition, earning a draw.
Boston River vs Cerro Porteno: Tips
Draw pays 3.00, draw and under 2.5 goals pays even better, and suits my 1-1 hunch. If the final score is 1-1 indeed, it will pay 6.00.
