Botafogo vs Athletico Paranaense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 11 August 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Last week was one of good news at Botafogo; the team beat Avaí 0-2 in Florianópolis, after losing four games in a row (championship and Copa Sudamericana combined), and a couple of days ago, the club managed to pay two salaries (June and July) to their employees, people working at the offices. Plus, Eduardo Barroca, the coach, said in a Press conference that Botafogo are moving to sign one player, an attacker, to strengthen their roster. The Rio de Janeiro side were 9th in the Serie A table before Saturday’s matches. They should start with Gatito Fernández, Marcinho, Carli, Marcelo Benevenuto, Gilson, Gustavo Bochecha, Cícero, João Paulo, Luiz Fernando, Rodrigo Pimpão and Diego Souza. Centre-back Gabriel is out due to cards.
For some reason, the team that wins the J.League Cup in Japan every year, plays against the winner of the Copa Sudamericana, for what used to be called the “Suruga Bank Championship”. It’s now called “J.League Cup/Copa Sudamericana Championship” (I doubt they could have found a less inspiring and more boring title), and Athletico Paranaense just won it, beating Shonan Bellmare 0-4 in Japan. Apparently, it was a big deal for the Curitiba club, so Tiago Nunes had his best possible 11 on the pitch at kickoff. Against Botafogo, Athletico are expected to play almost exclusively with reserves (as they have a big Copa do Brasil game coming up against Gremio). Caio, Madson, Lucas Halter, Pedro Henrique, Abner Vinícius, Rossetto, Léo Cittadini, Lucho González (or Tomás Andrade), Braian Romero, Vitinho and Thonny Anderson, these should start for Athletico.

Botafogo vs Athletico Paranaense: Prediction
I’m with Botafogo to win, taking very seriously the fact that Athletico will play with their reserves. They are good players, no doubt, but no match for Athletico’s regulars.

Botafogo’s win is at 1.88. Combined with “under 3.5 goals” it pays considerably better, 2.40.
