Botafogo vs Atletico Goianiense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 16 November 2017
Kick-off: 23:00 CET
Disappointing result for Botafogo last weekend at home, loss to Atletico Paranaense (0-1), a rather unfair result, since the Rio de Janeiro side was at least as good as Atletico, but paid the price for a rather rare Roberto Fernández (or “Gatito”, as they call him in Brazil) mistake, their Paraguayan goalkeeper. He has been very good this season, he has helped Botafogo earn points, but last weekend he committed a hard to believe mistake, failing to block the ball, and then reacting just a tad late to keep it from crossing his line. Botafogo had a good number of chances to score at least once, and draw would definitely have been a more fair result. They are 6th in the table, a position good enough to allow them to play Copa Libertadores football next season. Group stage, or qualifiers? Depends. If Gremio win the competition this season (they are facing Lanus in the final), even the 6th spot in the final table will be good enough to secure a team a spot in next season’s group stage (if Cruzeiro are among the top-5, which they seem they’ll be).
Atletico Goianiense were considered outsiders when they hosted Sport Recife last weekend, but I liked their chances of getting a positive result, suggesting their double chance. They ended up winning the game, 2-0, their fist victory in almost a month and a half. Diego Rosa spent most of the season stuck at just one goal, but in Atletico’s last two games he has sent the ball in three times, including two against Sport. Atletico’s win kept them alive in the fight to avoid relegation. Their mission looks almost impossible, they are at the bottom of the table, nine whole points behind Vitoria, the first team right above the relegation line, unbelievable things need to happen for Atletico to play Serie A football next season as well, but… every week that passes and they retain their mathematical chances, is… something, for the Goias side.

Botafogo vs Atletico Goianiense: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Botafogo and one draw in the four (no more) games these two have given before in Rio de Janeiro. Three of those four matches had four goals or more.
Botafogo vs Atletico Goianiense: Prediction
Botafogo are considered huge favorites to win the game, but I have my doubts, seeing them lose back-to-back games as hosts. Both times it was details that cost them, but details or no details, two times in a row they proved unable to make a home game take the path they wanted. I’m leaving winners and losers aside, I’m going for goals.
Botafogo vs Atletico Goianiense: Betting Tips
I’m counting on Atletico Goianiense to score, and I’m choosing “both teams to score”, at 2.45, as my only tip, tempted by how well it pays, and also by the fact that Botafogo have conceded in their last five home matches.
