Botafogo vs Atletico Mineiro
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 25 July 2019
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
Botafogo have played two games after the Copa América break, and failed to score in both. They drew 0-0 in Belo Horizonte with Cruzeiro, that was a decent result, but last weekend they lost 0-1 at home to Santos. Their rivals are co-leaders in the Serie A in Brazil, hand-in-hand with Palmeiras, but even so, Botafogo should have done better. Eduardo Barroca, their coach, talked about the referee after the match, his decision to send Gilson off in the 69th minute. Santos were already down to 10 men, Botafogo were pushing for the opener, which, most probably, would have been the winner as well, but Gilson’s red card changed things, and almost right after that, Santos scored. In the Copa Sudamericana, Botafogo have been impressive this season, eliminating Defensa y Justicia and Sol de América. Be reminded, Defensa almost won the championship in Argentina last season. Botafogo won all four games, keeping a clean sheet in each and every one.
Atlético Mineiro’s 2-2 draw at home last weekend with Fortaleza is one of those that make players and coaches… lose their sleep; less than 15 minutes into the game they were 2-0 up, in total control of the match. Somehow, they conceded twice in the second half, and wasted two points in the silliest way possible. No disrespect meant towards Fortaleza, but failing to win that game was a monumental failure for Atlético, and Rodrigo Santana didn’t try to… beautify the situation, talking to reporters after the final whistle. Generally, Atlético have looked incredibly inconsistent, not just after the Copa América break, but since the start of the season. Great job in the Libertadores qualifiers, poor in the group stage, very good start of the season in the Serie A, mediocre after some point. Plus, they got eliminated by city rivals Cruzeiro in Copa do Brasil, a week ago.

Botafogo vs Atletico Mineiro: Prediction
I wouldn’t bet on winners and losers in this game, as I find it open to any result. I prefer focusing on goals.
Botafogo vs Atletico Mineiro: Betting Tips
“Under 2.5 goals” and “no” on “both teams to score” is my tip, at 1.90. I won’t be surprised if there is a goalless draw, but if one of the two take the lead, I expect them to protect it.
