Botafogo vs Atletico Paranaense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 14 June 2018
Kick-off: 02:00 CET
Botafogo were left with a bittersweet taste in Salvador last weekend. They took the lead three times(!), but got equalized as many by Bahia, and had to settle for a single point. It should be mentioned though that the Rio de Janeiro side played with 10 men in the entire second half. Rodrigo Aguirre was sent off seconds before the end of the first half, when the referee awarded Bahia with a penalty that was “contentious”, to write the least. Botafogo’s coach, Valentim, said after the match that there was no penalty, and obviously no red card either, but… by then… the – partial – damage had been done. Botafogo are on 14 points, with nine of those having come from their five home games. They are still undefeated as hosts, having won twice and drawn in three matches.
It’s… painful to be an Atlético Paranaense fan these days. The team have lost three games in a row in the Série A, they are left below the relegation line, and their morale was hurt even more last weekend, when they lost at home, to Sao Paulo, 1-0. A defeat hurts either way, but that one was… special, as it was the first home loss of Atlético against Sao Paulo since 1982(!). Center-back Paulo André is the only player missing. Coach Fernando Diniz has the rest of the squad at his disposal, but 11 matches into the season he seems to still be struggling to come down to a lineup he can really count on. Defensively, they haven’t been bad, they have conceded 10 goals in 11 matches, but those six they have scored, just six, is just too poor a number.

Botafogo vs Atletico Paranaense: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Botafogo and two for Atlético in the last five games between these two in Rio de Janeiro.
Botafogo vs Atletico Paranaense: Prediction
Botafogo are considered favorites to win the game, but I have my doubts.
Botafogo vs Atletico Paranaense: Betting Tips
I will be surprised in Botafogo lose, but their win in “draw no bet” pays just 1.44, and their double chance is at just 1.29. Atlético have scored just one goal in six away games this season (but earned three goalless draws). If I bet on Botafogo’s win, I would make the risk really worth it, combining it with a clean sheet. Like that, it pays 3.10.
