Botafogo vs Corinthians
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 24 October 2017
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
Botafogo are… doing their best to throw to the trashcan all the effort they’ve put into since the start of the season. Midweek they drew 1-1 at Avai, and now have just four points from the last four matches, a very poor tally considering that all four games were against teams lower than them in the table. Even that single point they earned at Avai, came thanks to an added-time equalizer by Marcos Vinicius. Before earning just four points from their last four games, they had four wins in a row. That couldn’t go on until the end of the season, but they have gone almost to the other extreme, “stealing” a point in added time, from a team that sits second-to-last in the table (Avai)…
Looking at how Corinthians have been doing in their latest games, having just one win the last five game weeks, it’s hard to believe that a team with such an… average record is sitting at the top of the table, nine(!) whole points above their closest competitors (these lines were written before Sunday’s matches). As I have written again and again these last weeks, what has saved Corinthians from having another team right behind them, is that everyone else has been dropping points like crazy as well. Gremio, Santos, Palmeiras, all three would be within striking distance from the top, if they had been more consistent, if they had taken advantage of the… gifts Corinthians have made them. Midweek, the Sao Paulo side did just enough to earn a goalless draw at home, playing against Gremio. It feels they have… slowed down soooo much, and they are pretty much waiting for the season to be over, even though there are still many games left.

Botafogo vs Corinthians: Head to head Stats
Botafogo have three consecutive wins at home over Corinthians, without even conceding a goal. Before that, they had drawn 2-2 (in 2012). Corinthians’ last win at Botafogo was in 2011. Only one of their last five games in Rio de Janeiro has gone over 2.5 goals.
Botafogo vs Corinthians: Prediction
Botafogo are considered slight favorites to win the game, but personally I’m backing Corinthians to earn at least a draw.
Botafogo vs Corinthians: Betting Tips
Corinthians’ double chance is at 1.48, good enough for some, given that it does feel relatively safe (even being just average lately, Corinthians have lost just one of their last six Brasileirao matches). Draw alone pays 2.90, and looks like the most probable result to me.
