Botafogo vs Palmeiras
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 17 April 2018
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Excellent week for Botafogo this last one. It started with a triumph in the final of the State championship of Rio de Janeiro against Vasco da Gama, and then, midweek, they beat Audax Italiano as well, in Chile, 2-1, earning a big advantage to qualify for the second round of the Copa Sudamericana. They have several players injured, though. Moisés, their 23-year-old left-back, got injured in the final versus Vasco, and will stay sidelined for two more weeks. Same with midfielder Luiz Fernando. Another midfielder, João Paulo, is dealing with a much more serious injury, that will keep him out for no less than five months. A third midfielder, Renatinho, had to get substituted at Audax midweek, and his presence in the game against Palmeiras is a doubt. On top of all that, Botafogo saw players leave these last days, feeling that elsewhere they will have better chances of regular football. They did sign attacking midfielder Jean from Corinthians, on loan, but at this point, their roster looks “short”, and the board of directors have promised coach Alberto Valentim at least two-three more players.
Unlike Botafogo, Palmeiras had a… frustrating week. They lost the Paulista championship title last weekend to Corinthians, but they’re still claiming the game should be repeated, because of a certain refereeing decision. Midweek, they hosted Boca Juniors in a Copa Libertadores game, took the lead super late, thought they had the three points in the bag, but Boca equalised, and possibly the… worst of all, was that it was a former Corinthians player, Carlos Tévez, who scored the goal. Attacking midfielder Bruno Henrique and striker Borja didn’t train on Friday because of feeling too tired, but they should still be involved in this game, even for less than 90 minutes.

Botafogo vs Palmeiras: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Botafogo and three for Palmeiras in the last five games between these two in Rio de Janeiro. Four of those five matches had three goals or more.
Botafogo vs Palmeiras: Prediction
According to reports in Brazilian media, Palmeiras have made the… strategic decision/choice NOT to prioritize the Copa Libertadores over the Série A, which is exactly what they did last season, ending up with none of the two titles. In other words, they will play with their best possible team in the championship, starting with this match.
Botafogo vs Palmeiras: Betting Tips
Palmeiras are considered relatively clear favourites to win the game. Their victory pays 2.00, and is my main tip. “Under 2.5 goals” is at 1.61, and these two combined promise an awesome 4.00.
