Botafogo vs Sao Paulo match previews
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 29 July 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
In Botafogo’s Copa do Brasil game against Atletico Mineiro on Wednesday I backed them to win without conceding, but they did even better than what I expected, they won 3-0 (they had lost 1-0 in the first leg), and qualified for the semifinals… in style. Last weekend, seeing that they had traveled to Atletico Goianiense without four suspended players, plus, knowing that they had the return leg vs Atletico Mineiro coming up, I avoided backing them to beat the worst team of the Brasileirao so far, and they didn’t, the best they managed was a 1-1 draw. Botafogo haven’t lost in their last seven matches, they have four wins and three draws, and, very important, they have kept four clean sheets. They now have one of the best defensive records in the Brazil campeonato, and, as of Wednesday night, a very boosted morale.
After losing six out of nine games, drawing the other three, in other words after going without a win for nine straight matches, the fact that Sao Paulo now have four points in their last two games, including one versus second-placed Gremio last weekend, can only be seen as a positive thing for the Morumbi side. Coach Dorival Junior, who seems to… have woken the team up (recently he replaced Rogerio Ceni at the helm), told reporters that newly-signed (on loan from China’s Hebei) Hernanes, will make his debut in this match. Hernanes himself said that he hasn’t missed a training in a year and a half now, he feels perfectly fit, he did admit that he lacks match rhythm, but declared himself ready to help the team. According to reports, the one who will lose his position in the starting lineup to make way for Hernanes is Argentine Jonathan Gómez.
Botafogo vs Sao Paulo: Head-to-head Stats

Botafogo vs Sao Paulo Match Predictions
In terms of match predictions bookies give Botafogo rj an advantage to win the game, but I have two reasons to expect Sao Paulo to earn at least a draw. First, they had the whole week to rest and prepare for this match. Botafogo’s attention was mostly on the return leg of their Copa do Brasil quarterfinal against Atletico Mineiro. Second, Sao Paulo have looked improved in the last two games, and I expect them to look even better in this one.
Botafogo RJ vs Sao Paulo Betting Tips
In terms of betting tips ‘Draw or Sao Paulo’ pays 1.55 while Sao Paulo +0.25 asian handicap pays 1.75 For more than that, taking a huge leap of faith, I’d bet on Sao Paulo to win (3.00), while also keeping a clean sheet, a combination that offers betting odds of 4.75. It’s somewhat… crazy, Sao Paulo have been horrible beyond description for way too long now away from home, but for reasons already explained, in this particular match I expect them to do much-much better.
