Brisbane Roar vs Ulsan
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 10 May 2017
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
Brisbane Roar traveled to Muang Thong United two weeks ago leaving several regulars behind, because a few days later they had a huge game against Melbourne Victory, an A-League knockout semifinal. They lost 3-0 in Thailand, they lost 1-0 to Melbourne Victory, so… these are rather ‘grey’ days at Brisbane Roar. They are already out of the Champions League, but at least they can be content with the fact that at home they remain unbeaten, having drawn 0-0 to Muang Thong United, and picked up a big 2-1 win over Kashima Antlers. A win over Ulsan wouldn’t totally change the atmosphere at the beautiful and awesome to watch football at, Suncorp Stadium, but it would be something.
Ulsan’s 4-0 humiliation at home two weeks ago to Kashima Antlers put an end to their hopes for qualification to the last 16 of the competition. The game was at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes, but in the second half the Korean side just… collapsed, probably their worst 45 minutes in years. Ever since then, they have bounced back in the K-League, beating Incheon United, Daegu, and last weekend, Suwon Bluewings, two of those three away from home. They are sitting third in the table, three points behind co-leaders Jeju United and Jeonbuk Motors. Actually, Ulsan are hosting Jeonbuk Motors this Sunday, so their coach decided to leave several key players behind, avoiding the long trip to Brisbane, for a game that has really no real significance for the Korean side.
Brisbane Roar vs Ulsan: Head-to-head Stats
Brisbane have hosted Ulsan once before, in 2012, when they lost 2-1. Earlier that season, they had earned a 1-1 draw in Korea. In this season’s Champions League group stage, Ulsan destroyed Brisbane 6-0 at home.
Brisbane Roar vs Ulsan: Prediction
Brisbane Roar may be disappointed at how the season ended for them in the A-League, but, I do expect them to continue with the great home displays in the Champions League group stage, especially against an Ulsan side that will be without key players, after their coach’s decision to rest them, ahead of a big game in the K-League this Sunday.
Brisbane Roar vs Ulsan: Tips
Brisbane’s win at 2.25, looks almost too good to be true, given that they are hosting an Ulsan side that will be consisting of several reserve players. I’m tempted to back the home side to win in an over 2.5 goals game, this pays 3.60, but even at 2.25, their win looks great to me.
