Buriram United vs Jeonbuk Motors
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 13 March 2019
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
I wouldn’t go that far as to claim that Buriram United deserved a point in Japan last week (definitely not), but I was left with the impression that the final score, 3-0, was… too harsh for them. “Urawa and under 3.5 goals” (2.20) was the tip here last week, and it came good, as Buriram lost 3-0, conceding all three goals in the second half, and two of those in the last 15 minutes. All in all, Buriram looked competitive, no matter what the final score suggests. On Sunday, they beat Prachuap 2-0 at home, scoring both goals in the last 20 minutes. It was just their first win in three matches in Thailand’s championship (they had drawn in their first two).
Jeonbuk Motors deserve so much respect… They don’t make headlines with signing “big” foreigners, but somehow they manage not just to stay competitive, but to be among the favorites every time they participate in the AFC Champions League. Last week they hosted Beijing Guoan, theoretically they should have struggled to win, but on the pitch, they made things look rather easy. Early lead, after which they did get equalized, late in the first half, but less than three minute into the second half they scored again, and then added the cherry on top, 3-1, in the 71st minute. In other words, they spent the biggest-biggest part of the game leading. Lee Dong-Gook, Jeonbuk’s emblematic 39-year-old striker, scored their second goal against Guoan. On Saturday, they… terrorized Suwon Bluewings, destroying them 0-4 away from home. It was their first win in three K League 1 games this season.
