Greek Super League betting tips and predictions
The Super League, as has been called since 2006, is where Greece's 16 best teams meet, with some fighting to avoid relegation, other happy to finish in the middle of the table, and a handful of the remaining ones aiming at finishing second, knowing beforehand almost for sure that the championship title will be won by Olympiakos, exactly as it has happened 19 times in the last 21 years.
Greece has been having a national competition since 1927, with the 'modern' era starting in 1959, when the so-called 'Alpha Ethniki' (literally 'A National') was established. Since then, only five clubs have won the title, the big three of Athens/Piraeus, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, AEK, plus PAOK from Thessaloniki and Larissa, or AEL, as it's often called.
The regular season runs from August to April, and May is play-offs time, when the teams from 2nd to 5th battle it out for the ticket that leads to the Champions League's 3rd qualifying round.
