Ceara vs Flamengo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 26 August 2019
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
Ceará lost at Sao Paulo last weekend, but taking a step back and looking at how they have done after the Copa América break, you have to admit they’ve been way more than just “decent”. They did lose twice away from home, to Sao Paulo and Internacional, but both times by “just” 1-0. Also, they drew at Fluminense, and most important of all, won all three games at home, including that 2-0 over Palmeiras, five weeks ago. That was the reigning Serie A champions’ first defeat of the season. Before Saturday’s matches, Ceará were 11th in the table, on 20 points. Enderson Moreira told reporters that despite hosting mighty Flamengo, his team will attack and try win the game, instead of… playing with time just to “steal” a draw. They are expected to start with Diogo Silva, Samuel Xavier, Valdo, Tiago Alves, João Lucas, Fabinho, Ricardinho, Thiago Galhardo, Lima, Mateus Gonçalves and Felippe Cardoso.
As mentioned here in previous Flamengo match previews, Jorge Jesus may be leading a… Brazilian team, but he remains Portuguese, and he just won’t do what most-most Brazilian coaches would do in his shoes; Fla just faced Internacional in a Copa Libertadores quarterfinal, they won 2-0, they have the return leg in Porto Alegre in a few days, but unlike Odair Hellmann, Inter’s coach, who will field a totally alternative lineup in their game this weekend, Jesus will make as few changes as possible, as he told reporters himself in his last Press conference. He also said than in his mind, both competitions are equally important, and won’t prioritize one over the other. They are second in the table, two points behind leaders Santos. They should start with Diego Alves, Rafinha, Thuler, Rodrigo Caio, Renê, Piris da Motta, Arão, Gerson, Everton Ribeiro (or Arrascaeta), Vitinho (or Bruno Henrique) and Gabigol.

Flamengo won 0-3 last season in Fortaleza. Before that, they hadn’t visited Ceará since 2011 (excluding a 2017 game in a smaller competition).
Ceara vs Flamengo: Prediction
Flamengo are considered favorites to win, but Ceará have been awesome at home the last month, and I can see them earn a draw.
Ceara vs Flamengo: Betting Tips
Ceará’s double chance is at 1.67, “so-so”, but goes up to 2.50 if combined with “over 1.5”. Another way to approach this game would be betting on “both teams to score and over 2.5 goals”, at 2.70.
