Ceara vs Vasco da Gama
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 2 December 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Wescley’s goal in the 83rd minute last weekend, earned Ceará a point (2-2) at Atlético Paranaense, one of pure gold, as it meant that the Fortaleza side secured their stay in the Serie A, mathematically. They are on 43 points, three ahead of América Mineiro, the first team below the relegation line, but it’s mathematically impossible for Ceará to fall 17th in the table. Thousands of fans attended a training session the other day, singing and celebrating. One even tattooed the figure of Lisca, Ceará’s coach, as he had promised, in case the… “particular” coach (he is famous for his reactions and statements) “saved” the team from relegation. Actually, it’s the second time he managed it, and the club made him a “lifetime member”, giving him a members’ card and everything… Their focus now is on finishing 13th, where they are now, or, worst case scenario, 14th. If they finish 13th, they earn a Copa Sudamericana ticket. If they finish 14th, they’ll have to wait for Atlético Paranaense’s Sudamericana final against Junior, from Colombia. If Atlético win the competition, even the 14th-placed in the Serie A will play international football next year.
Vasco da Gama’s case is different. Last week they lost 0-1 at home to Palmeiras, a result that left them on 42 points, 15th in the table. If they win, obviously, they are safe. If they draw, again, they are safe. If they lose and stay on 42 points, they get relegated if two more results go very-very badly for them; if América Mineiro beat Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro, and at the same time, Chapecoense beat Sao Paulo at home. In that case, Vasco will finish on 42 points, lower than Chape and América, and level with Fluminense. They’ll go down though, because Fluminense have 11 wins this season, and they “only” 10. Argentine striker Maxi López left Friday’s training session early, having received a knock, but he made it clear he can’t imagine himself not playing this weekend.

Ceara vs Vasco da Gama: Head to head Stats
Ceará and Vasco drew without goals in Fortaleza back in 2016. Two years earlier, Ceará had won 2-0.
Ceara vs Vasco da Gama: Prediction
Ceará need to win, so as not to depend on others to finish 13th. Depending on how other games will be going though, simultaneously, even a draw may be enough. This “simultaneously” detail makes any prediction even harder. All things considered, I’m backing them to win, the way they’ve done in five of their last seven games (the other two were draws).
Ceara vs Vasco da Gama: Betting Tips
Ceará’s win is at 2.30 (with their double chance at just 1.33).
