Cerro Porteno vs 3 de Febrero
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 21 April 2018
Kick-off: 23:50 CET
The Apertura ship seems to have sailed for Cerro Porteño, their 11-point gap on leaders Olimpia seems very-very hard to close, but at least they have started playing like Cerro, like reigning champions. They have four – big – wins and a draw in their last five matches in the championship, not having conceded a single goal in those matches. Last weekend they destroyed Nacional Asunción 5-0, no matter if the score was at just 1-0 by the 75th minute. Big news for them, recently back to action Nelson Haedo Valdez scored, an important morale boost for him. Midweek, Cerro got the job done against Gremio, in the Copa Libertadores. Their target was to avoid defeat at home, they did, they got a 0-0 draw, in a game that will be mostly remembered for the atmosphere created by more than 40,000 Cerro (and a few Gremio) fans.
3 de Febrero have four draws in their last five matches, they have six draws in 12 Apertura games thus far, but remain the only team without a victory, failing to beat Deportivo Santaní last weekend. They wasted the first half watching their guests rule on the pitch. They did take control in the second half, created chances, but missed them all, getting left with one point, which was simply not good enough. They remain at the bottom of the table, on six points, four less than Santaní. Remember, it’s not necessarily the position of a team in the table that defines their continuation in the top division or their relegation, it’s the “average” of points per game, and 3 de Febrero have by far the worst average right now, among all 12 Apertura participants. They need to start collecting more points, or else the end of the Apertura will leave them with a mountain to climb in the Clausura, the second half of the season.

Cerro Porteno vs 3 de Febrero: Head to head Stats
Cerro haven’t faced 3 de Febrero since 2014. Back then, they beat them 2-0 and 2-1 (Clausura and Apertura respectively, both at home).
Cerro Porteno vs 3 de Febrero: Prediction
Recently, Cerro drew 0-0 at home to Deportivo Santaní, a team just slightly better than 3 de Febrero, so… anything can happen, especially a few days after Cerro’s very demanding game against Gremio. All things considered though, the reigning champions should win.
Cerro Porteno vs 3 de Febrero: Betting Tips
A simple Cerro win pays just 1.29. “Under 2.5 goals” is at 2.44, and I like it, remembering how they struggled against Santaní recently, another team that played with… 11 players at the back, which is what 3 de Febrero will do as well. Last but not least, “Cerro to win and keep a clean sheet” makes sense, given that they haven’t conceded in their last five Apertura matches, they didn’t even concede to Gremio midweek.
