Cerro Porteno vs Guarani
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 22 July 2018
Kick-off: 21:30 CET
Cerro Porteño beat Independiente de Campo Grande 1-0 in neutral Capiatá midweek, but one of their players, attacker Alfio Oviedo, was not eligible to play. He was sent in as a substitute in the 85th minute, replacing scorer Diego Churín. It remains to be seen how this will go, how the PFA will handle the case. Cerro had the best defense in the Apertura, conceding less goals than any other team, so keeping a clean sheet against Inde was not a major surprise. Having seen how the whole game went though, it’s hard to believe there was just one goal. Three or more would have been more… appropriate, keeping in mind how many chances both teams missed. Left-back Álvaro Pereira started for Cerro, for the first time in 16(!!) months. He had gotten seriously injured, he returned to action a few months ago, but only played with Cerro’s reserves, and came on as a substitute in a single Apertura game.
Guaraní got the job done midweek at home against Deportivo Capiatá, winning 1-0. Their first half was absolutely great, but ironically, they didn’t score. They created a series of big chances, but somehow missed them all. In the second half, they needed a – correctly given – penalty to open the scoring, but after that they sort of retreated, allowed Capiatá to move closer and closer to their box, and needed their goalkeeper to make two fine saves to keep a clean sheet. All in all, it was a deserved victory, despite the bad last 20 minutes. Coach Juan Manuel Azconzábal is expected to start the game with Víctor Centurión, Mario Saldívar, Robert Rojas, Luis Cabral, Guillermo Benítez, Estiven Pérez, Luis de la Cruz, Jorge Morel, Rodrigo Bogarín, Rodolfo Gamarra and Gabriel Esparza. Midfielder Bogarín has received a phone call from Huracán (Argentina) coach, he knows the Buenos Aires side are interested in him, and Guaraní’s president had a talk with him, asking him to stay focused on Guaraní, until his situation is… resolved.

Cerro Porteno vs Guarani: Head to head Stats
Cerro have back-to-back wins over Guaraní at home. Before that though, Guaraní had three straight victories visiting Cerro.
Cerro Porteno vs Guarani: Prediction
Cerro should win. Simple as that.
Cerro Porteno vs Guarani: Betting Tips
Cerro’s win at 1.80 looks great to me, despite the fact that Guaraní played a very good game (for the most part of it) the other day. For more than 1.80, I would risk with Cerro’s win combined with “over 2.5 goals”.
