Cerro Porteno vs Sportivo Luqueno
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 25 March 2018
Kick-off: 22:00 CET
Finally, Cerro Porteño… appeared in the Apertura, playing their first good game since the start of the season when they hosted Independiente de Campo Grande, midweek. The stadium had less people than in any previous game this season, despite the fact that Cerro dropped the prices of the cheapest tickets to as low as 10,000 guaraníes, less than two dollars. It was a clear sign that Cerro’s people had had enough of the team’s horrible performances in the Apertura. Luis Zubeldía made a number of changes, for example, Hernán Novick started the game (and did great), but talking to the Press ahead of the game against Sportivo Luqueño he seemed unsure about keeping in the lineup some of those who started against Independiente, fearing that the four days between the two matches may not be enough for some to recover. Santiago Arzamendia, a 19-year-old left-back on whom Cerro are counting a lot, is unavailable due to cards.
A few days ago I wrote about Sportivo Luqueño’s… mind-blowing ups and downs, going from zenith to nadir in a matter of days, again, and again… Guess what… They did it again. Four days after butchering Guaraní at Defensores del Chaco, all they could earn against lowly Deportivo Santaní at home was a poor 0-0. They are easily the most unpredictable team in the Apertura, which makes it a nightmare to try “read” them, and feel confident about betting on their matches. Interestingly, they are level on points with Cerro Porteño, which says things about how poor Cerro’s season has been thus far. Marcos Gamarra, Luqueño’s 29-year-old left midfielder, is unavailable due to cards.

Cerro Porteno vs Sportivo Luqueno: Head to head Stats
Cerro have seven wins in a row as hosts to Sportivo Luqueño, with every single game going over 2.5 goals (Cerro conceded in all but one). Before that, back in 2014, there was a goalless draw between the two.
Cerro Porteno vs Sportivo Luqueno: Prediction
Sure, Luqueño are Unpredictable (capital “U”), but first, Cerro are playing at home, where, ever since they reconstructed it (practically building a whole new stadium), they have been almost perfect (results-wise), and second, Cerro looked like a whole different team a few days ago, and I expect them to build on that 4-0 triumph over Independiente.
Cerro Porteno vs Sportivo Luqueno: Betting Tips
A simple Cerro win pays 1.55. “Over 2.5 goals” pays exactly as much. These two combined though, promise a satisfying 2.15.
