CFR Cluj vs Celtic
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 7 August 2019
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
CFR Cluj did an awesome job in Tel Aviv last week, visiting Maccabi. They had won 1-0 at home in the first leg, they went 1-0 down early in Israel, but by halftime they were 1-2 up(!), and little changed in the second half. They did get equalized, but nothing more than that. Be reminded, they had eliminated Astana in the first qualifying round. Last weekend they threw a party at Chindia Târgovişte, 1-4, their third win in a row in Romania’s championship (they are on 10 points from four matches). Their coach, Dan Petrescu, complained the other day, pointing out that because of a UEFA decision earlier this summer, his team can have only 22 players in their list for this tie (two are goalkeepers, three are injured), while Celtic’s coach could choose among 41(!) players. Petrescu said that if the two clubs were equal on financial terms, the two games between them would be a 50-50 thing. Not now, not with Celtic so much stronger, financially, than the Romania champions.
Celtic have been looking very-very good at the start of this season. They beat Sarajevo twice in the Champions League first qualifying round, they destroyed Nomme Kalju in the second, scoring a total of seven goals past them in all 180 minutes, and last weekend they scored seven goals more past St. Johnstone, at home, on their debut in Scotland’s championship. The Press keep hailing Celtic as “rejuvenated”, and you can see why; they don’t just win their games, they actually play good football. Having written that, CFR are a stronger team than the three they have already faced this summer. Whoever qualifies from this tie, will face Slavia Prague in the playoffs.

CFR Cluj vs Celtic: Head to head Stats
No history between these two.
CFR Cluj vs Celtic: Prediction
Celtic are given a small advantage to win the game. I don’t rule their win out, but I prefer to bet on goals.
CFR Cluj vs Celtic: Betting Tips
“Over 2.5 goals”, at 2.45, looks very good to me. Both teams have looked very productive in their recent games (against weaker sides, but still, very productive).
