Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 5 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Chelsea’s win at Qarabag two weeks ago wasn’t paying more than 1.33, so I risked with adding a clean sheet to that (2.00), and the Blues delivered, beating the Azerbaijan champions 4-0. That win meant that the London team are in the last 16 of the competition. First or second in the group? This remains to be seen. Roma are expected to beat Qarabag in Italy, and finish on 11 points. Chelsea are on 10, and they have a disadvantage if they finish level on points with Roma, as they have drawn 3-3 in London, but lost in Italy. So, a draw, most probably, will leave Chelsea second. A win, yes, will keep them first, regardless of what Roma do against Qarabag. Last weekend, the Blues beat Newcastle 3-1 at home, despite going 1-0 down early in the game. It was their fifth win in their last six matches (the… missing game was a 1-1 draw at Liverpool, still a good result) in all competitions. They sit third in the Premier League table, behind the two Manchester clubs.
How ironic… It’s ironic either way, already, but it will be even more if Atletico Madrid win this game, and still finish third. What’s ironic is that Atletico are about to get eliminated from the Champions League, while Roma will most probably be in the last 16, despite the fact that the Rojiblancos drew in Rome, and beat the Italian side 2-0 at home two weeks ago. What will make this even more ironic, is a win over Chelsea, another team that no matter what, will be in the last 16.
Atletico have no one to blame but themselves, for those two hard to believe draws against Qarabag, in back-to-back games. If they had won not both, but at least one of those two matches, now they would be strong candidates to qualify. Instead, even if they beat Chelsea in London, they’ll still finish third, if Roma beat Qarabag in Italy, even by a… poor 1-0. “Under 2.5 goals” (1.72) and “no” in “both teams to score” (1.90) were my two tips two weeks ago, when Atletico hosted Roma, and both came good. Last weekend they beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at home (from 0-1 down). They are third in LaLiga, six points behind leaders Barcelona.

Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid: Prediction
I’m glad to see Chelsea be considered that clear favorites to win, because it makes Atletico’s double chance pay better than what I expected.
