Chelsea vs Southampton
Competition: England Premier League
Date: 2 January 2019
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
“Scorer” is not the first word that comes up when you thing about N’Golo Kanté, but the amazing Frenchman did just that last weekend, scored for Chelsea at Crystal Palace, the only goal in a 0-1 Blues win. It was his third goal this season, which, believe it or not, is as many (three) goals as he had scored the last three seasons combined(!). When Leicester won the Premier League, he scored once, he moved to Chelsea and scored once his first year there, and last season once again, one goal. Obviously, scoring is not why Chelsea signed him for, two and a half years ago, but this season it’s proving to be a very welcome bonus. Overall, the Blues were better, and deserved all three points last weekend. Bad news was, Olivier Giroud injured his ankle and had to get substituted. Chelsea were and remained fourth in the table, but closer to third-placed Tottenham (two points behind them), and now five points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.
Southampton were… unlucky to host a Manchester City side that were absolutely desperate to win last weekend, and that’s what Pep Guardiola’s team did. The Saints went 0-1 down early, managed to equalize with Pierre-Emil Højbjerg in the 37th minute, but City scored twice more before the end of the first half. The score didn’t change in the second one. What did change was the numerical balance on the field, as Southampton’s scorer got sent-off in the 85th minute. It was the Saints’ second home defeat in a row. They dropped one place, they are now 17th in the table, on 15 points, level with Burnley who find themselves below the relegation line. Cédric Soares, Ryan Bertrand and Michael Obafemi are injured.

Chelsea vs Southampton: Prediction
You never know, especially in the Premier League you never-ever know, but it feels like Chelsea will win, unless they shoot their own foot.
Chelsea vs Southampton: Betting Tips
A simple Chelsea victory pays no more than 1.30. They have scored just four goals in their last four matches, and conceded only two. I like the chances of “Chelsea and under 3.5 goals”, at 2.25.
