China vs Kyrgyzstan
Competition: AFC Asian Cup
Date: 7 January 2019
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
There are people who consider China doomed in this tournament, sure they’ll go no further than the quarterfinals (at best), there are others who count on Marcello Lippi and his super experienced players to work miracles in a tournament where – after the group stage – things get decided in a single knock-out match, only time will tell who is right, but one unquestionable truth is that this China side is the oldest among all 24 taking part in this tournament. Again, some see this as a negative, expressing their surprise at the fact that Lippi and the Chinese federation didn’t push for a – bigger – renovation. On the other hand, these are good – some even great – players we are “talking” about, players with a huge motive to do something important in their last, probably, appearance at a big international tournament. Another thing for sure, is that Lippi will step aside after this Asian Cup edition. It was announced officially back in October.
Kyrgyzstan are making their AFC Asian Cup debut this year, taking perfect advantage of the fact that the tournament expanded to include 24 instead of “just” 16 teams. Their coach is Russian Aleksandr Krestinin, in charge since October 2014(!). The very fact that he has already been working there for more than four years, makes you expect to see a team with a clear plan. Ability to make that plan work as well? That, has to be proven on the pitch, but all in all, Kyrgyzstan have gone a long way the last 10 years, improving their football (at least on national team level). Mind you, they are ranked 12th in the AFC (91st in FIFA’s list), higher than several other teams participating in this Asian Cup edition, but still, lower than South Korea and China, the two favorites to qualify for the last 16 from this group.

China vs Kyrgyzstan: Head to head Stats
China have faced Kyrgyzstan three times in the past, all in the last 10 years, all three were friendly matches, held on Chinese soil, and all three were won by the hosts. Total goals, 9-0(!).
China vs Kyrgyzstan: Prediction
Based on results/form, someone would be… excused to back underdogs Kyrgyzstan to do well in this game; China have won just one of their last seven matches (all friendlies), which Kyrgyzstan have done much-much better. Even so, I expect Lippi’s men to deliver now that it really-really matters.
China vs Kyrgyzstan: Betting Tips
A simple China win is at just 1.42. For much more than that, I would risk with “China and under 2.5 goals”, at 2.88. “Under 2.5” alone pays a not too bad 1.73.
