Colon vs River Plate
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 20 October 2018
Kick-off: 02:15 CET
Ten days ago, Colón hosted Newell’s Old Boys, with their wings broken, as they had just gotten eliminated by Junior in the Copa Sudamericana, at home. Tomás Chancalay, a 19-year-old winger, scored the only goal of the match, his first this season, in four appearances. Despite his young age, he is no newbie; he played in 24 Superliga matches last season, and scored three goals. Another youngster, left-back Gonzalo Escobar, got sent-off in the dying minutes of that game and is obviously unavailable. While most other Superliga teams were on a break last weekend, Colón beat Atlético San Jorge 1-0, to qualify for the Copa Santa Fe final. They are on nine points from eight matches in the Superliga, having two wins and as many draws as hosts thus far.
The last four weeks have a been a… dream for River Plate. Triumph at La Bombonera over Boca Juniors in the Superliga, 1-5 at Lanús(!) again in the championship, 3-1 over Independiente to qualify for the Copa Libertadores semifinals, and last but not least, 3-1 win over Sarmiento Resistencia in the Copa Argentina, earning them a spot in the semifinals, where they will be facing Gimnasia La Plata next month. Marcelo Gallardo’s team are hosting Grêmio on Tuesday, it’s the first leg of their Libertadores semifinal, and “El Muñeco” left six key players behind, not wanting to risk them in Santa Fe. Armani, Maidana, Ponzio, Pity Martínez, Quintero and Scocco stayed in Buenos Aires. River are on 13 points from seven matches in the Superliga, still undefeated, and with the best defensive record (they have conceded just three goals, as many as Huracán).

Colon vs River Plate: Head to head Stats
Three draws, and two big Colón wins (4-1 and 3-1!) in the last five games between these two in Santa Fe.
Colon vs River Plate: Prediction
River will have 4000 fans on their side in Santa Fe, as AFA are relaxing their ban that was in place for years, allowing more and more games to be played with fans of both teams present. Despite missing key players, I’m backing Gallardo’s team to win the game.
Colon vs River Plate: Betting Tips
River’s victory pays 2.45. Their double chance is at just 1.36. Their clean sheet pays better than their win, 2.65(!). Remember, they have conceded less goals than any other team in the Superliga thus far.
