Corinthians vs Botafogo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 19 July 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
From champions, to sitting 10th in the table, after the first third of the season. Things are anything but… brilliant at Corinthians, who, after Fabio Carille’s departure, the coach who led them to the title last season, have failed to convince anyone that they have what it takes to retain their title. They are 11 points behind leaders Flamengo, having disappointed in most of their last games before the World Cup finals break. They are expected to start with Cássio, Fagner, Pedro Henrique, Henrique, Danilo Avelar, Gabriel, Renê Júnior, Romero, Rodriguinho, Mateus Vital (or Pedrinho) and Roger. Balbuena, their former captain, is gone (transferred), and he’s not the only one who left the club. Clayson, Jadson, Ralf and Mantuan are expected to miss this game, all dealing with different injury problems.
Botafogo are sitting 9th in the table, a single point higher than Corinthians. They stayed undefeated in their last four games before the break, earning four out of possible six from their last two away matches (win at Vasco da Gama, draw at Bahia). Paquetá, Botafogo’s coach, told reporters that his team don’t have the… richest roster in the league, admitting that there are certain… limits to how well they can do, with the players they have. On the other hand, Botafogo’s fans do not really expect their team to win the championship, the pressure is not as big as at… Flamengo for example, and Botafogo have already proved that on their good day they can get a positive result against practically any rival.

Corinthians vs Botafogo: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Corinthians, two for Botafogo, and two draws, in the last six games between these two in Sao Paulo.
Corinthians vs Botafogo: Prediction
I have already been disappointed at Corinthians in several games, I have trusted them to bounce back only to see them drop more and more points, but after a five-week break I feel they are where they need to be to beat, at home, a rival of Botafogo’s level.
Corinthians vs Botafogo: Betting Tips
Corinthians’ win is at 1.85. Given that this is the first official game of both teams after several weeks, I would take things somewhat conservatively and stick to this 1.85.
