Corinthians vs Fluminense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 15 April 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Corinthians won the Paulista championship title last weekend, beating Palmeiras 1-0 away from home, a result that took the final to penalties, as Palmeiras had won the first leg at Corinthians by the same score. The title is theirs, but… there is an asterisk next to that. Palmeiras claim the game should be repeated, because there was “external interference”. What they mean is that the referee changed his mind after first giving them a penalty (in the end, he gave a corner), after being “advised” by an assistant who had, in turn, been “informed” by someone else that there was no penalty, as seen on TV. Palmeiras have made their case and the final decision is expected on April 23. Important detail, Corinthians have a Libertadores game coming up, at Independiente. They are on four points from two matches in their group. They are the reigning Série A champions, a title they won rather comfortably last season.
Fluminense made their life hard midweek hosting Nacional Potosí in a Copa Sudamericana first round first leg. There was no score until the 73rd minute, when Flu finally opened the scoring. They did score twice more, but only after Nacional Potosí were reduced to 10 men in the 81st minute. Their 3-0 should send them through to the next round (the return leg is next month). No Libertadores for them this season, but given that last year they finished just 14th in the Série A, they can’t complain for playing in the Sudamericana. Their coach, Abel Braga, got irritated by fans who booed the team on Wednesday. “If it is to whistle and boo, better not come to the stadium at all”, he said. Flu didn’t make the Carioca championship final, losing to Vasco in a knock-out semi.

Corinthians vs Fluminense: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Corinthians, one for Fluminense, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Sao Paulo. Only one of those five matches had more than two goals.
Corinthians vs Fluminense: Prediction
Corinthians are superior, no doubt, but they have a big Libertadores game coming up, and their coach has avoided opening his cards, regarding how extensive the rotation will be against Fluminense.
Corinthians vs Fluminense: Betting Tips
I feel Flu’s double chance at 2.37 is worth the risk. Corinthians have four 1-0s in a row, two wins, two defeats, so “under 2.5 goals”, at 1.60, may not be paying generously, but feels very probable.
