Corinthians vs Santos
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 4 June 2017
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
A week ago I backed Corinthians to beat Atletico Goianiense away from home, and also keep a clean sheet. This paid 2.75. The Sao Paulo side is one of only four who haven’t lost in the first three game weeks, and are sharing the top spot with Chapecoense and Cruzeiro. Attacking midfielder Jadson did not train properly these last days, not because he has some injury, but because it is common at Corinthians for players not to train with the rest of the group, if decided that they need to focus on their muscles, spending time in the gym. Left midfielder Marquinhos Gabriel took his place in the team of the ‘regulars’ in the internal games at practice, but Jadson most probably will be in the starting lineup.
Santos lost 1-0 at home last weekend to Cruzeiro, and according to their coach, Dorival Junior, their main problem at this point is that they have become kind of… predictable. The roster hasn’t changed much the last two years, the style of play hasn’t changed, so he feels that the rivals have managed to figure ways out to control Santos, neutralizing their most productive, offensively, players. He didn’t, obviously, disclose what he has in mind about the lineup in this game, but he did imply that maybe it’s time to… shake things up, make a couple of changes that will… confuse Corinthians, maximizing his team’s chances to get a positive result.
Corinthians vs Santos: Head-to-head Stats
Three wins for Corinthians, one draw, and one win for Santos in the last five games between these two with Corinthians as hosts.
Corinthians vs Santos: Prediction
As I wrote last week, Corinthians have been impressive away from home for weeks now, but equally… lukewarm, if not downright disappointing at home. They have four consecutive 1-1 draws in three competitions as hosts, and that alone is reason enough not to get too excited about the 1.90 that their win comes with. Everything considered, I’m backing the visitors not to lose, expecting them to be much better than in their previous away games.
Corinthians vs Santos: Tips
‘Draw or Santos’ is at 1.90, exactly as high as a simple Corinthians win. I’m going with the former. Deep down, I expect a draw, which pays 3,30, and, taking an even bigger risk, I would bet on a draw with no more than two goals, at 3.75.
