Coritiba vs Atletico Paranaense
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 3 June 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Last weekend I backed Coritiba to win at Vitoria in a game that would have no more than two goals (this paid 3.60). They won 1-0. Their coach, Pachequinho, admitted that the lack of… distractions, is helping his team. Coritiba have already been eliminated from the Copa do Brasil, and are not playing international football this season. They have started the Serie A with two wins and a 1-0 defeat at Santos, a result (the latter) that no one can really blame them for. Central midfielder Anderson is injured, the only player Pachequinho cannot count on for this local derby, the so-called ‘Atletiba’ (from Atle-tico and Cori-tiba).
Unlike Coritiba who had a whole week to prepare for this derby, Atletico had a big Copa do Brasil game midweek. They beat Santa Cruz 2-0 at home, and having drawn 0-0 in the first leg, they qualified for the next round. Secondary striker Guilherme got injured last weekend in Atletico’s 1-1 draw to Flamengo, and will stay sidelined for a whole month. He may not be the only one to miss the derby against Coritiba. Center-back Paulo Andre and right-back Jonathan were expected to start against Santa Cruz, but were left on the bench. After the game, coach Eduardo Baptista explained that his decision was made a couple of hours before kick-off. Both players had complained of fatigue and minor injuries after the game versus Flamengo, and practically the last moment it was decided to stay out. Atletico have been playing back-to-back games for weeks, more like months now, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone if some regulars were omitted from the starting lineup in this game, no matter if they are -technically- available to play.
Coritiba vs Atletico Paranaense: Head-to-head Stats
Three wins for Coritiba, one for Atletico, and a draw, in the last five games between these two with Coritiba as hosts.
Coritiba vs Atletico Paranaense: Prediction
Coritiba are considered clear favorites to win, and for good reason. Not only they have started the Serie A campaign with good results and convincing performances, but they’ve also had the ‘luxury’ to spend a whole week preparing for this game, while Atletico played an important Copa do Brasil match on Wednesday. They won, they looked good, but still, they shouldn’t look as ‘fresh’ as their city rivals.
Coritiba vs Atletico Paranaense: Tips
Coritiba’s win pays 1.80. For some, this may be enough. A much bigger risk, but at 4.00, so… definitely tempting, is to bet on Coritiba to win in a game that will not have more than two goals.
