Coritiba vs Corinthians
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 18 June 2017
Kick-off: 16:00 CET
Coritiba could and should have done much better at home against Bahia. They drew 0-0, looking very nervous, inexplicably nervous, losing the ball even when not really under pressure, having countless inaccurate passes, clumsy finishes, and all in all, performing well below average. They lost center-forward Kleber as well, he got sent off in the 71st minute, for spitting at Edson. Not that Bahia’s player was any better. He spat back, and got sent off as well. Interestingly, Coritiba announced that they won’t fine their player, despite getting sent off 100% correctly, for a totally unacceptable behavior. At least Coritiba managed to attract over 20,000 fans to the stadium. They had been averaging about 10,000 tickets before the game versus Bahia, and they can expect their average to go even higher now that they are hosting Corinthians.
Corinthians beat Cruzeiro, as predicted here, continuing with their fine series of results and performances. Attacking midfielder Jadson, who has played in all seven games so far, scoring one goal as well, did not travel to Curitiba, being deemed too tired by coach Fabio Carille. Good news for leaders Corinthians is that another attacking midfielder, Rodriguinho, and right-back Fagner are back, having missed the last games being in Australia with the national team of Brazil. Corinthians have six straight wins in the championship, after that 1-1 draw at home on the first day of the season against Chapecoense.
Coritiba vs Corinthians: Head-to-head Stats
The last three games between these two in Curitiba have ended in a draw. Just before that, Corinthians had back-to-back wins. Last time Coritiba beat Corinthians at home, was back in 2011.
Coritiba vs Corinthians: Prediction
Betting companies consider Coritiba slight favorites to win, which suits me just fine, because it makes ‘draw or Corinthians’ pay somewhat better than what I expected. I’m definitely backing the visitors not to lose. I would be doing the same even if Coritiba had looked better against Bahia. The fact that they played their worst home game of the season so far just a few days ago, only makes me feel even more confident about backing Corinthians to earn at least a draw.
Coritiba vs Corinthians: Tips
‘Draw or Corinthians‘ pays 1.53. Taking a leap of faith, I suggest a Corinthians win, at 2.90, and if that is not good enough for you, consider betting on Corinthians to win and keep a clean sheet. This combination pays 4.33.
