Cracovia Krakow vs Jagiellonia Bialystok
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 9 September 2017
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
I don’t know if I should feel sorry for Cracovia, or mumble a “you had it coming…” A week before traveling to Wroclaw to face Slask, they had hosted Gornik Zabrze. They were 3-1 down just a few minutes before the end, but the referee… gifted them two penalties, and just like that, they made it 3-3, salvaging at least a point. Fast forward to the Wroclaw match, they had their chances not just to get a point, but even win the game. Instead, in the dying minutes of the match, the referee made the worst, possibly, decision of this season’s Ekstraklasa so far (possibly the worst of the whole season, dare I predict), awarding Slask with a penalty, even after watching on a TV screen exactly what had happened (Slask’s player had fallen to the ground without anyone touching him). Loss, 2-1, which left Cracovia at the bottom of the table.
If you can afford 4-5 minutes, do google (or visit the Ekstraklasa’s official website) the highlights of Jagiellonia Bialiystok vs Piast Gliwice, and I assure you that you will laugh with the chances Jagiellonia missed, and at the players who missed them. Two chances more than the rest, are among those that we use to say “you need to put in a genuine effort to miss them”, but still, they missed them. A game that should have ended 2-0 or 3-0, went Piast’s way, thanks to Jagiellonia’s missed chances and a scruffy Piast goal. That’s football. Jagiellonia are technically 4th in the table, but just one point behind co-leaders Lech Poznan and Zaglebie Lubin. Just before the transfer window was shut down, they signed 24-year-old center-back Nemanja Mitrović, a Slovene who spent last season at Olimpija Ljubljana.

Jagiellonia have won their last two games at Cracovia. Before that, three consecutive games ended in a draw. Only two of those fives matches went over 2.5 goals.
Cracovia Krakow vs Jagiellonia Bialystok: Prediction
As I have written before, I… fear Cracovia’s “black holes”. They have great periods in every single game since day one of this season’s Ekstraklasa, but at some point they… switch off, and they stay like that for dangerously big parts of every game. Despite Jagiellonia’s unbelievable defeat to Piast two weeks ago, I’m backing the visitors to look more… clinical this time, and pick up all three points.
