Croatia vs England
Competition: UEFA Nations League
Date: 12 October 2018
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
“Wow…” I suppose this was many people’s spontaneous reaction seeing that “6-0” next to “Spain vs Croatia”. Five days earlier, the Croats had looked good in Portugal, drawing 1-1 in a friendly game. What came next though, in neighboring Spain, was… a massacre. They were already 3-0 down at halftime, and unfortunately for them, the Spaniards showed no mercy in the second half, no intention of slowing down. Final score, 6-0, with the Croats looking… totally disillusioned in the second half, especially after conceding the fourth goal in the 49th minute. They didn’t even manage to score a consolation goal. They haven’t won any of their last six games in 90 minutes. They beat Denmark and Russia on penalties, in the World Cup finals, and England in extra-time.
After losing the semifinal and the 3rd-place match in the World Cup finals, but still leaving good, overall, impressions, England wanted to start their post-Russia campaign on the right foot, proving that there will be… continuity. Their Nations League debut at home against Spain started out the best way possible, early goal by Marcus Rashford, but before halftime, they were 1-2 down, and stayed there, until the final whistle. Three days later they hosted Switzerland in a friendly game, Rashford did it again, early in the second half, and the Three Lions ended up winning the game, a morale boost, after losing to Spain (and finishing the WC Finals on two defeats). In a way, this is the… derby of the disappointed ones in this group. Both need a small miracle to snatch the top spot from Spain, but at least mathematically, it is still possible.

Croatia vs England: Head to head Stats
Croatia have hosted England twice before; they’ve beaten them once, and have lost once as well. Total goals, 3-4 for the English.
Croatia vs England: Prediction
I feel Croatia are the ones who wants this more, for the fans, to bounce back after that… traumatic 6-0 in Spain, but even so, I don’t see them win.
Croatia vs England: Betting Tips
England’s win in “draw no bet” is at 1.90, and their double chance at 1.48. “Both teams to score” is at 1.95, and suits my 1-2 or 1-1 hunch.
