Cruzeiro vs Fluminense
Competition: Copa do Brasil
Date: 6 June 2019
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
In some other country, or in an international competition, drawing 1-1 away from home in the first leg of a home and away tie would have left Cruzeiro with a small but real advantage. Not in Brazil, not in Brazil’s Cup, as the away goals rule is not in place in the competition. If the game in Belo Horizonte has no goals, the tie will go straight to penalties. Cruzeiro drew 1-1 with Sao Paulo last weekend, a result that left them with a bittersweet taste; on one hand, they played well, and rather deserved to win. On the other hand, they have now gone for a whole calendar year without a win away from home in Brazil’s national championship, a whole year… Coach Mano Menezes called the fans to stand by the team, setting aside their frustration at the lack of wins; Cruzeiro have not won any of their last six matches, in three different competitions.
João Pedro’s goal in added time, in the first leg, was a major relief for Fluminense, but they still need to win in Belo Horizonte if they are to reach the quarterfinals. Flu have now lost three games in a row, including that 3-0 at Athletico Paranaense last weekend, a game that could hardly have gone any worse for them; they had a player sent off in the 33rd minute, already 1-0 down, conceded again a few minutes later, and the game was practically over at halftime, 2-0 down, and playing with a man less. If that were not enough, center-back Matheus Ferraz and winger Yony González got injured, and the day before the return leg against Cruzeiro it was unclear if they would be available.

Cruzeiro vs Fluminense: Prediction
Cruzeiro are considered clear favorites to win, but I would not bet on that.
Cruzeiro vs Fluminense: Betting Tips
“Under 2.5 goals” pays 1.57, low, so I would risk with “under 1.5”, at 2.62, expecting a very tight game. With the first leg score at 1-1, I don’t see any of the two taking big risks, not even Cruzeiro, despite playing at home. I would be anything but surprised if the game ended goalless and we had penalties.
