Cruzeiro vs Fluminense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 26 August 2018
Kick-off: 02:00 CET
Fábio again… Ten days ago, Cruzeiro’s goalkeeper saved his team in the Copa do Brasil, denying three Santos players in the penalty shootout. Midweek, at Gremio, with the game at 1-1 in its dying minutes, Fábio “took care of things” again, denying Luan from the penalty spot. Looking back, Cruzeiro didn’t deserve to lose. They were better in the first half, took the lead just before going to the dressing room at halftime, and all in all, the point they earned was deserved. According to reports, they are going to host Fluminense with a heavily rotated lineup, because they have the return leg of a Copa Libertadores tie coming up. They are hosting Flamengo on Wednesday, they beat them 0-2 in Rio de Janeiro in the first leg, but Mano Menezes is taking no chances, he wants his best possible lineup available on Wednesday.
Fluminense took perfect advantage of Ángel Romero’s nerves, that led him to the dressing room before the end of the first half. He elbowed Digão at the center of the field, trying to protect the ball, and the referee, after… thinking about it for about two minutes(!), sent the Corinthians player off. Fluminense had taken the lead earlier, in their only real chance in the first half. In the second part, Corinthians didn’t really show up on the pitch, and Fluminense didn’t have the slightest problem to protect that 1-0 lead. Attacker Everaldo had to leave the game very early, injured, spent 24 hours in a hospital where his condition was monitored, and the only thing for sure is that he’s not playing against Cruzeiro. Defender Digão is also out, because he can’t face Cruzeiro (he “belongs” to them, and is playing for Fluminense on loan). Flu are going through a good period, they beat Defensor Sporting in Uruguay, qualified for the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, drew with América in Belo Horizonte, beat Corinthians, climbed 9th in the Série A table, but (there is a “but”), they could lose two vastly important players these next days; striker Pedro and midfielder Sornoza are targeted by teams from abroad, with reports claiming that Fenerbahce are offering 5m euros for the Ecuadorian, Flu’s number 10. Mind you, only 60% of that money would stay with Fluminense, who, truth is, are dealing with massive financial problems.

Cruzeiro vs Fluminense: Head to head Stats
Four wins for Cruzeiro and one for Fluminense (in a smaller competition) in the last five games between these two in Belo Horizonte.
Cruzeiro vs Fluminense: Prediction
Cruzeiro are considered clear favorites to win the game, but I’m backing Flu to leave Belo Horizonte undefeated. The hosts will play with many reserves, and Fluminense are going through a very good period.
Cruzeiro vs Fluminense: Betting Tips
Fluminense’s double chance at 2.15 looks very-very good to me. Their win in “draw no bet” pays a fantastic 3.75.
