Cruzeiro vs Internacional
Competition: Copa do Brasil
Date: 8 August 2019
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
Mano Menezes has been Cruzeiro’s coach since July 2016. If you follow Brazilian football, you know that three years is a… lifetime for coaches, it’s really rare to see a coach spend back-to-back full seasons at a club, let alone three. Menezes has done that, delivering titles for Cruzeiro, but right now, things are bad. How bad? So bad that Menezes told the president that if he and the board of directors think it’s appropriate and the best thing for the team, he is out. Menezes remains in charge, as the president and his associates decided to stick with him. Cruzeiro are below the relegation line in the Série A, they just lost to huge city rivals Atlético Mineiro, last week they got eliminated by River Plate on penalties in Copa Libertadores, they haven’t scored in seven matches(!) in three competitions, and they have won just one of their last 17(!!!) games in all competitions. Unthinkable… The Copa do Brasil presents them with a golden opportunity to… save their season; they won the title last year, they did so in 2017 as well, and they are 180 minutes away from another final. Right now, they have much more to lose than Inter…
As just mentioned, right now, Inter have less to lose than Cruzeiro. Not that they are not… dying to reach the Copa do Brasil final, but they are in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, and they have every reason to hope that their final position in the championship will be good enough to earn them a Libertadores ticket for 2020. Last weekend they lost 2-1 at Fluminense, playing with an almost entirely alternative lineup, as Odair Hellmann chose to rest most of his regulars, who had played against Nacional a few days earlier, in Copa Libertadores. Andrés D’Alessandro and Pedro Lucas are out, as both got sent off at the end of the quarterfinal against Palmeiras, three weeks ago. Rodrigo Lindoso got injured in the return leg against Nacional, and on Monday, Hellmann told reporters that he may need a little more time before coming back, so as not to risk an even bigger problem.

Cruzeiro vs Internacional: Head to head Stats
Two Cruzeiro wins and three draws in the last five games between these two in Belo Horizonte.
Cruzeiro vs Internacional: Prediction
It’s hard to trust a team that have not scored in seven matches and have won just one of their last 17 games, but I can’t help it, I do see Cruzeiro… draw a line, and not just score, but win this match.
Cruzeiro vs Internacional: Betting Tips
Cruzeiro’s win pays 2.50. I would stay with that, but for even more, I would go for “Cruzeiro and under 3.5 goals”, at 2.95.
