Cruzeiro vs Santos
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 18 August 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Rogério Ceni’s papers are ready, he can sit on Cruzeiro’s bench this weekend, as the Belo Horizonte club paid Fortaleza close to 240,000 euros, the clause in his contract. Cruzeiro’s new coach cannot count on right-back Edilson (he got sent off last weekend, against Avaí), and attacking midfielder Rodriguinho, who is still recovering from an injury. On the other hand, Thiago Neves and Fred are back, but only the former is expected to start. Ceni kept his cards close to his chest these last days, hiding his intentions regarding the starting lineup, but Cruzeiro reporters expect Fábio, Orejuela, Dedé, Léo, Egídio (or Dodô), Henrique, Ariel Cabral, Robinho (or Marquinhos Gabriel), Thiago Neves, Pedro Rocha and Sassá to be on the pitch at kickoff. Cruzeiro drew 2-2 at Avaí last weekend (they equalized twice, including in added time), in their first game after Mano Menezes’ departure. Before Saturday’s matches, they were 17th in the table, below the relegation line.
Santos had seven wins in a row in the championship, having kept a clean sheet in four of those matches, before visiting Sao Paulo last weekend. Despite taking the lead and finishing the first half winning 0-1, they ended up losing 3-2. Thankfully for them, Bahia drew with Palmeiras in Sao Paulo, so Santos finished last weekend three points ahead of second-placed Palmeiras. Colombian centre-back Felipe Aguilar is out due to cards. Peruvian attacking midfielder Christian Cueva is also out, but has been pretty much since the restart of the season, after the Copa América break. Most probably, he will soon leave the club. According to reports, Jorge Sampaoli will have Everson, Victor Ferraz, Lucas Veríssimo, Gustavo Henrique, Jorge, Diego Pituca, Felipe Jonatan, Carlos Sánchez, Derlis González, Eduardo Sasha and Soteldo in the starting lineup.

Cruzeiro vs Santos: Head to head Stats
Just one win for Cruzeiro, two for Santos, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Belo Horizonte.
Cruzeiro vs Santos: Prediction
Despite the fact that Cruzeiro have a new coach, I find it hard to imagine Santos losing two games in a row.
Cruzeiro vs Santos: Betting Tips
Santos’ win in “draw no bet” is at 1.91. Their double chance is not paying more than 1.50, but combined with “over 1.5” it goes up to 2.20.
