Crvena Zvezda Belgrade vs CSKA Moscow
Date: 29th December 2016
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
In what will be a rematch of one of last season’s playoff series, Crvena Zvezda Belgrade will host CSKA Moscow.
Crvena Zvezda are definitely not having one of their best seasons in the Euroleague, but they are still managing to win important games and stay in the middle of the table. The Reds currently hold a 6-8 record, which is enough for ninth place in the standings at the moment. Moreover, Zvezda are coming off a spectacular win over Real Madrid in the previous round and will head into Thursday’s match against CSKA full of confidence.
In the previous round, CSKA suffered just their second defeat of the season, as they were overpowered by Fenerbahce in Moscow. However, despite the loss, the russian club is still sitting comfortably on the top of the standings with a 12-2 record. They won’t have an easy task in terms of bouncing back though, as Crvena Zvezda are a tough team to defeat at home and it remains to be seen if CSKA will suffer their first consecutive losses of the season.
Crvena Zvezda Belgrade vs CSKA Moscow: Head to head stats
In the past 16 years, Crvena Zvezda Belgrade and CSKA Moscow have faced each other three times in the Euroleague, with the Russian club winning all three games.
Those three games were part of a playoff series from last season.
Crvena Zvezda, despite losing all three games, performed well and never lost by more than 10 points.
Crvena Zvezda Belgrade vs CSKA Moscow: Prediction
Theoretically, CSKA Moscow should be heading into Thursday’s game against Crvena Zvezda as absolute favorites. However, the Russians seem to be losing some steam lately
CSKA have been the absolute best offensive team so far in the season, averaging 92.0 points per game so far. However, they will be facing the second best defense of the tournament, as Crvena Zvezda have allowed just 75.0 points per game in these first 14 rounds. The Serbian club has had a bit of problem in terms of scoring though (74.1 ppg), which could prove to be a problem against CSKA.
Nando De Colo is expected to make his return from injury in the Euroleague, as he did feature in CSKA’s last domestic game. However, he will most likely be given a limited role and less minutes on the court than usual. In this case, if Zvezda can manage to contain Teodosic, they will have a decent chance to win.
A surprising win by Crvena Zvezda is on the table but the russians should prevail in the end.
