CSKA Moscow vs Barcelona
Competition: Turkish Airlines Euroleague
Date: 11 October 2018
Time: 18:00 CET
CSKA Moscow were dominant in the Euroleague last season, finishing first in the regular season with a massive W24 L6 record. They had the best offense and the 6th best defense in the regular season. They went on to destroy fellow Russians Khimki Moscow by 3-1 in the playoffs, and were matched against Real Madrid in the Final Four. However, they fell by 83:92 and even lost to Zalgiris Kaunas in the 3rd place match by 77-79. CSKA Moscow made numerous changes in their roster, with Westermann, Khryapa, Korobkov, Makiev, Rudd and Fridzon departing from the team. Daniel Hackett was brought in from Brose Bamberg to fill up the back-up PG spot, while Alec Peters and Joel Bolomboy came from the NBA without a lot of experience. Also, Ivan Ukhoc was signed from Parma but he is the third-string PG in the roster.
On the other hand, Barcelona are coming off a really bad season in the Euroleague, where they failed to make the playoffs. They eventually finished at the 13th spot in the regular season with a mere W11 L19 record. That resulted in a complete overhaul in the team’s roster, with 11 players departing and 6 players coming to replace. The ones that departed were Jackson, Moerman, Reynolds, Koponen, Vezenkov, Diagne, Garcia, Pressey and Sanders, while Navarro retired and Kurucs was drafted in the NBA by the Brooklyn Nets. But Barcelona made some great additions, bringing in three rookies in the Euroleague and 3 veterans. Chris Singleton is a great veteran with three seasons on Panathinaikos, Kevin Pangos was impressive with Zalgiris Kaunas last season, and Jaka Blazic is also a great addition. Moreover, Rolands Smith, Kyle Kuric and Artem Pustovyi arrived to give some depth to the bench.

CSKA Moscow vs Barcelona: Head to Head Stats
The two teams exchanged home wins in the Euroleague last season, with CSKA Moscow winning by 92:78 in this venue, before falling by 85:72 in Spain. That was the first loss for CSKA Moscow in the last five matches against Barcelona. CSKA Moscow have also been excellent as hosts against Barcelona over the years (W8 L2), and have won each of the last five here.
CSKA Moscow vs Barcelona: Prediction
Both teams made a ton of changes in their roster during the off-season, but it seems like Barcelona were the most improved of the two. They will also be hungry for success after a really bad season. Moreover, they have played four competitive matches already, while CSKA Moscow have played only two.
CSKA Moscow vs Barcelona: Betting Tips
CSKA Moscow have comfortably won both matches in the VTB so far in the season, both on the road and both by 25 points. But the Euroleague is a totally different beast, and so is Barcelona. I will take Barcelona to defend the +9 points as my main bet here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this match featured Under 167.5 points.
