CSKA Moscow vs Red Star Belgrade
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 21 February 2018
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
“Draw” (3.20), “under 2.5 goals” (1.53) and “under 1.5” (2.62) were my three tips last week, in this order, when CSKA Moscow visited Red Star in Belgrade, adding that I had a 0-0 hunch. The game did end without goals, a rather tricky 0-0 for CSKA. Tricky, because they failed to score that all too precious away goal. The championship in Russia hasn’t restarted yet, so the Moscow side played a friendly game against Esbjerg last weekend, in which, again, they failed to score. In this return leg, not only they need to find a way to send the ball in, but they also need to stay absolutely focus at the back. Conceding a goal will oblige them to search for at least two. Another source of worry for CSKA is that they haven’t been that convincing at home this season, not only in their Champions League group, but even in Russia’s championship.
My opinion is that the 0-0 of the first leg was better for Red Star than for CSKA, no matter if the game took place in Belgrade and the hosts were playing in front of their own fans, at home. They failed to score, but I feel that their success to keep a clean sheet is more important than their failure to score. They have the “luxury” to be qualifying even with a draw in Moscow, as long as that draw is with goals. Last weekend they beat Javor Ivanjica 3-0 at home, maintaining their nine-point distance to second-placed Partizan Belgrade in Serbia’s championship. They have conceded just eight goals in 23 matches there this season, and if you’re thinking, “well, that’s just Serbia’s championship”, do keep in mind that in their group, in the previous round of the Europa League, in six games, they conceded just two goals, and one of those was in the dying minutes of their home game against Arsenal. My point is, this season’s Crvena Zvezda are a super tough nut to break, and I give them good chances of surprising CSKA.

CSKA Moscow vs Red Star Belgrade: Head to head Stats
Last week’s game was the first ever between these two.
CSKA Moscow vs Red Star Belgrade: Prediction
CSKA are considered almost certain winners of the match, their victory pays around 1.65, which suits me fine, because I’m taking the risk to back Red Star to leave Moscow undefeated, or, to be more specific, to finish the 90 minutes undefeated.
CSKA Moscow vs Red Star Belgrade: Betting Tips
Red Star’s double chance is at 2.25 betting odds. Obviously, draw is more probable than a Red Star win, but even 2.25 seems good enough to me to avoid taking an even bigger risk. Having written that, I’m not exactly backing Red Star to qualify. I will be anything but surprised if the game goes to extra time, or even penalties, with CSKA qualifying there. “Under 2.5 goals” is at 1.53, I consider it very probable, but I prefer Red Star’s much better-paying double chance.
