Daegu vs Guangzhou Evergrande
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 12 March 2019
Kick-off: 11:30 CET
For some reason I felt Daegu had what it took to beat Melbourne Victory in Australia last Tuesday, at least earn a draw, their double chance (1.75) and their win in “draw no bet” (2.40) were the two tips here, and the Korean side delivered, despite going 1-0 down something less than 30 minutes into the game. They equalized right away, were a bit lucky to take the lead in the 51st minute (tricky deflection), and then went on to secure all three points, when Brazilian Edgar Silva scored a true… striker’s goal in the 61st minute. He had scored right before that, on Daegu’s K League 1 debut (1-1 at Jeonbuk Motors), and actually he scored last Saturday at well, in their 2-0 home win over Jeju United. They’re looking good, and Edgar is playing a big part in that. The former Buriram United striker scored 11 goals in 22 matches for them in 2018 (championship and Cup combined), and has started the new season with his foot on the gas.
“Guangzhou Evergrande and under 3.5 goals” was the tip here last week, when the Chinese side hosted Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and they won indeed 2-0, pretty much putting the game to bed in the first 25-30 minutes. That’s when they scored both their goals, with Brazilians Talisca and Paulinho finding the back of the net. Sanfrecce traveled to China with many reserves and youngsters, they didn’t really threaten Guangzhou, and the Chinese side sort of… slowed down after taking a two-goal lead. On Friday, Paulinho scored again, to give his team all three points in their CSL home game against Tianjin Teda. They are on six points from two matches, having kept a clean sheet in both, three, if we include the one against Sanfrecce last Tuesday.
